Little Blue School House

Aug. 17, 2008 - Lesson Plans

Here are some things we'll be working on through September until whenever we're ready to move on! Any of this is subject to change at any time and this is not the only stuff we're doing- just some things that I've found online. We may not get to everything- this is merely a guide with many things, so hopefully, no matter what we do, it will be a rich learning experience!  (I may add or edit this and I'll make a note of that if  I do.)

We'll be reviewing the alphabet and starting to focus on each letter and the sounds it makes. Daniel loves Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, so we'll start with that book. I plan to start with books and themes that he loves. If it's related to a book he already likes, he'll be more likely to be interested in learning activities.

  • Chicka Chicka Boom Boom unit
  • An excellent site with ideas for teaching, especially literacy, using Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
  • Another Chicka Chicka Boom Boom unit from MakingLearningFun.com. There is a lesson with counting coconuts and some playdoh fun.
  • More fun ideas for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
  • I'd like to make Coconut Tree and add a letter as we go through the alphabet. This will be a large one for the wall.
  • I also came across a cute coconut tree project that we'll do all at once. Here is the link. (Instead of making it magnetic, I'll use small foam alphabet stickers, since we already have them.)

You can find Brown Bear templates and activities to print out here. I'm printing out each of the animals found in the story on appropriately colored tag weight paper and we'll use them as puppets while we read.

Beaver craft

Bowling

Since Daniel is a visual learner and likes things to be labeled, I thought we'd make either a scrapbook or poster with facts and pictures to summarize what we've learned at the end of each learning period (however long that is!).

Aug. 16, 2008 - Tentative Plans

I have a lot of those! Tentative plans, that is. I'm so excited to start homeschooling, but I don't really know what I'm doing. Just don't tell anyone I said that!

I'm working on a post that I'll use as an idea list for September through October. It will not be a complete list of everything we do, but will have many ideas to pick and choose from!  Feel free to grab ideas or just follow along. :)

Aug. 16, 2008 - Welcome!

Summer is almost over and I have been trying to get myself organized and ready to start officially homeschooling Daniel! We've been working on things all summer, but I've mostly been taking advantage of "teachable moments", socializing, socializing, socializing, integrating therapy into everyday life and trying to figure out which approach will work for us. I'm still doing all of that, but I'm going to try to have more focus. There are so many great sites online and I've been searching and sifting through those. I'm really excited about this one. It's a fantastic Chicka Chicka Boom Boom unit and I plan to use some of the ideas there with other ones that I've collected.

You're welcome to come over and view my other blog. If you homeschool, I'd love to hear from you!
