Hello, I just came across your blog and thought books and tea sounded neat! We used Abeka the first year we homeschooled, 10 yrs. ago because it was the only thing I knew about. First grade is SO much fun, just enjoy your time together. There is an amazingly huge selection of homeschool material out there. We enjoyed many things from Timberdoodle Catalog and Love to Learn.

We used all Abeka while DD was in kindergarten and First grade. I agree with the post above, its beautiful and very colorful. If I had to do it again I would not use Abeka, it was a bit too much for a first grader, plus there are so many other things out there as good as Abeka, with a better price tag. We still use Abeka Science and History. I wish DD was in First Grade again :( They grow so fast........
Feb. 9, 2007 - Go to a book fair

I have used Abeka for my second grade son since he was in Kindergarten. In addition, I have a sixth grade student who has used it for two years and her older sister is currently in their chemistry class. We use the DVD curriculum and find it to be very effective. We have two other families in our SDA church who use the DVD curriculum. My best advice for you is to go to the www.abeka.com website and go to their book fair page. See if you can find when the next book fair near you will be. Please note that their next fiscial year begins in March. You may not find any information before next month. There are many positive things about Abeka, but if you do your research, there are complaints out there as well. My best advice as a teacher and a homeschooing mother is to go see for yourself. You know your child better than anyone and only you, upon examining their materials, can best decide if Abeka is a good match for your daughter. Please email me from my blog http://gentlebreezes.blogspot.com if you have any questions.
