I just love these tools! I started out by only collecting Debra's products which I had gotten free from the weekly downloads at homeschoolestore and also on the NotebookingPages website. They were so cool! I recently purchased the complete State Study set and it is just really, really cool. I know, I am gushing. I cannot recommend these products enough. I am certain I will be buying more. Within the State Set, each state has dozens of pages including map pages, state bird, state flower, state map, state nickname and mottto pages, several coordinating notebooking layout pages, and a teacher guide section! Alabama for instance has 40 pages, and only 2 are teacher instructions. So my brief list does not really do it justice! The drawings are beautiful. Also, this set has many, many bonuses. I can't wait to start using this set next week, and neither can my children...
This summer, I introduced the kids to the concept of notebooking with the Basic Plus set. I wanted them to write about their favorite part of each book for summer reading contests we were involved in. I told them they had to write at least one sentence for the book to count toward the contest. They had to read 15 books for the Library contest, and 8 different books for the Barnes and Noble contest. I printed out one of each of the Basic Plus Lined Pages, and let them choose their favorites. They were thrilled! As you can see from the pictures, my son (age 6) wrote more then one sentence! My daughter's pages (age 8) tended to be one or two sentences at most because she preferred to concentrate on the drawing and coloring parts. Since this is her first experience with notebooking; I intend to let her build up to a more acceptable level! The variety included in the Basic set is such that the pages can be used by boys or girls. The set includes 100 different layouts in both Primary and Regular lined formats. Some pages have room to draw and some do not.

The bottom line is; We try not to insist on parent-led learning or gravitate toward child-led learning. We try instead to focus on God-led learning and ask for His input and perspective on every aspect of our home school. That way, when others fuss about what Dan and I are doing and make me second guess our decisions -- I can go back to our decision process and find God's fingerprints, reminding me that this is His way.
