September Highlights

Posted in Homeschooling

September was a busy month!  We started school in August so we were thankfully already in the swing of "school" when all the extra activities hit.  Here are some of our favorite things we did this month:

We started running track.  We have a man who is in his 70's who loves to run track and he pulls together a Tri-County Track meet every year.  This gentleman holds practices for homeschoolers (and anyone else who is available) on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 8-9am.  Practices are held at the high school in the county next to ours.  It is a bit of a drive but Joshua loves to run so I thought this would be a perfect sport for him.  It also was a great choice because we practice in the morning, not a night like most sports, so I didn't have to worry about juggling dinner and all the night time activities too.  Well, when we got to our first practice we soon found out that the coach really encourages families to run together and soon he had us all convinced and all 4 boys and myself were off and running!  The track meet was a wonderful success with many talented runners from all 3 counties!
Joshua placed 3rd in 50 meter and 3rd in the 100 meter
Jacob placed 3rd in the 50 meter
Joseph placed 3rd in the 50 meter

Co-op is in full swing and one of the projects the boys made in our Tapestry of Grace co-op was the cool Empire State Buildings from www.papertoys.com

Another highlight of this month was our homeschool support group's Back to School Picnic!  The kids have a blast eating and playing with eachother at our local park.  In this picture some of the kids are lines up waiting for their turn in a kickball game.

Ryan acted in a play called Heaven's Gates, Hell's Flames.  They were short on "actors" so many of them had to play several parts.  Ryan played a teen who whipped Jesus, did drugs and got his girlfriend pregnant and then played one of satan's demons.  Yikes - all BAD people parts!  But he did learn a lot and was moved by the play.

Joseph and Jacob had their monthly meeting of their Stamp Club which they always enjoy!  We went on a field trip to the Graffiti House which you can read about here, and Royal Rangers started up this month.  It is a weekly club that Joseph, Jacob, and Joshua participate in.  Ryan got to go to the monthly Teen Collective Party with our homeschool group teens which is always fun!  Daddy took Ryan and Joseph to Awakening Fest.  This was Joseph's first year going and Ryan's second.  It is like a big, all day, Christian Festival.  They have a giant slide, rock climbing walls, a graffiti wall, kids crafts, a petting zoo and Christian music concerts.  Some of the performers this year were Toby Mac and BarlowGirl.  That is always a blast!

I'm sure we did much more but those were the memory makers.

Boys 'R' Us

We are a homeschooling family raising 4 boys in Virginia. This blog is mostly about anything relevant to raising boys or homeschooling in general - but every once in a while I can't help but add some nonsense from our daily life.

Quotes from the Boys

Josh: "Would you rather die or eat pizza for a year?" Um, let me think about that one!

Joseph: "Once I burped, sneezed, coughed, hiccupped, and farted all at the same time!" Now, only a boy could think that one up and think it is cool!
