Dobson = Huckabee & Bauer = McCain - Why do we care?
As our election process brings us closer and closer to choosing the candidates that will be on the ballot in November, endorsements are all over the news. Just recently several prominent evangelical Christian leaders have announced endorsements for their favorite candidates. And while this is certainly a good thing in the sense that it keeps issues that Christians are concerned about in the forefront of the news, it shouldn’t sway our personal choice for a candidate.
I was talking with an out of state friend and she mentioned that James Dobson endorsed Huckabee and Gary Bauer endorsed McCain and that made her more confused about who to vote for.
My response was: “Why do you care?”
I wasn’t trying to be rude, I really am curious why people are concerned over who endorses who. Voting is a very personal decision. One which should be made based on your issues, your beliefs, your circumstances. And while it certainly is good to listen to others opinions and reasons for backing their chosen candidate, it is still our job to take responsibility for our own vote.
So why do we care about who other people are voting for? We all are intelligent enough to find answers to our questions and facts on the candidates. Do we not trust our own judgment?Do we think others are able to make better decisions than us?Do we think others are more informed about the facts than we are?Is it just simply easier to vote the same as others whose beliefs align with ours?
This question is truly not a political one, but a question about human nature.I find it very interesting.
