I love having boys!

Posted in Silliness

Having boys around is really handy!  I never have to take care of any bug, snake, spider, frog, or other creature that comes my way.  All I have to do is yell for help and one of my knights in shining armour comes to my rescue.
Well, it's that time of the year - tick season - and my boys are responsible for tick removal on our 3 Jack Russells.  Thankfully our Jacks are white and short haired so ticks are real easy to spot.  Here is "Skittles" in our back yard - ain't she cute!

We only have just over 3 acres but it is mostly wooded so my boys and dogs can't walk out the door without getting a tick on them.  Lately, they (the boys and our Jacks) have been spending a lot of time at the little creek on our property and they have been coming home covered with ticks.  They are everywhere . . . and I mean everywhere!  One of our Jacks "Arrow" had a tick in a very unpleasant spot - right under his tail shall we say.  Thankfully we noticed it before that little tick went exploring!

Any of you have any good advice for keeping ticks at bay or at least reducing them?
Arrow (and Jacob) would really appreciate it!!!!

You may not want to use chemicals, but we swear by Frontline. The ticks drop like flies. It keeps fleas off too. I don't know of any natural remedy.

Cute dogs. I remember seeing one of your puppies a couple of years ago. Darling!!

Ah, boys. Aren't they great? My youngest son peeled the shell off a snail yesterday and named it slimy. He was amazed at how long it could live without a shell - of course, the true number of hours was never counted because a neighbor friend ended up stepping on poor slimy! Love boys, too!

For the family try increasing your garlic intake...for the dogs I haven't a clue. If you can smell the garlic when they sweat the ticks should stay away (and any girls too). Best luck!

I've heard about the garlic remedy, but I don't know if it works. *shrug* We have four dogs, but we don't have ticks like you do. We deal with fleas, and we have chemically-sensitive dogs, so we use the Adams brand spray.

What cute doggies, by the way! We have a chi (possible JRT mix in him). When our sheltie is no longer with us, I've always thought about a JRT or a Rat Terrier. Hmmm. Very cute puppers!

Thanks for stopping by my blog.
I love your space here. You have a lot going on.

What a timely post. We pulled no less than 30 ticks off of us last night from being in our yard. We even found 3 inside the kids' ears! eek

I came in and found a product online called Mosquito Barrier from www.arbico-organics.com It is supposed to kill ticks, too. I'm gonna try it.
I've also heard that taking extra Vit. B 1 is supposed to be great for an internal repellent.

Have a great week!

Sep. 14, 2008 - ticks

We just delt with a major tick problem with our dog (she is under a year) in South Florida. It took us a few months but theyre gone!! Besides the usual baths, tick pulling with tweezers, yard spraying, wall tick removal, Advantage tick and flea chemicals on her back what I think has worked really well are the 5 doggie gralic pills she takes a day. You have to be vigilant, though, and groom every day to pull those ticks off and kill them in alcohol (don't just flush them alive).
BTW, we home school 3--2 boys and a girl!
Good luck!

Quotes from the Boys

Josh: "Would you rather die or eat pizza for a year?" Um, let me think about that one!

Joseph: "Once I burped, sneezed, coughed, hiccupped, and farted all at the same time!" Now, only a boy could think that one up and think it is cool!
