I only have a few minutes to post but I wanted to share a wonderful resource for the new year.I am planning on reading through the entire Bible this year and have found a free podcast of daily Bible readings which take you through the entire Bible in a year. This is from Learn Out Loud - one of my favorite free audio download websites that I use often. You can download the entire file to your mp3 player or computer and access it whenever it is convenient for you.I still plan on reading the text as well but this is a great resource for auditory learners or people who are on the go a lot.I am planning on having my boys listen to the podcast every evening and do their readings in the mornings. Here is the link: Bible in a Year Podcast
Enjoy!
Ok, this is my first attempt at participating in Weblink Wednesday which socalval hosts every week!
I thought I would share some of my favorite free clip art sites that I use:
Microsoft Clip Art
This site has a TON of clip art, photos, and web graphics. Very easy to use and download. This is by far my favorite because they have everything you could want!
Math Clip Art
Neat black and white graphics. The geometric patterns are my favorite - they make great coloring sheets.
I wanted to share with you all a neat online tool for scheduling and organizing school assignments. It is called Pageflakes. It is a webpage that you personalize with to-do lists, assignments, calendars, podcasts - all kinds of things.
My main purpose for choosing to use this site is because I was looking for an easy way to consistently assign the websites and web courses that I want my high schooler to accomplish. Initially, I intended to use this page only to organize his daily online links. But, it worked out so well that I decided to add all of his assignments onto this page and have everything all in one place.
The site uses flakes (like widgets) which you add to your page. Flakes can be pre-designed like the one below where the content changes every day:
Or, you can design your own flakes to meet your needs like the ones I did here:
Some of the neat flakes you can add are:
SAT word of the day
Dictionary word look up
Quote of the day
Art piece of the day
Local weather
Blog Feeds
Science podcasts
Sudoku games
And tons more!
You kind of have to "see" it to understand what I am talking about. If you want to see a generic student page click here: http://www.pageflakes.com/deefleming11/15295069 Or to see one I have personalized for my oldest teen, click here: http://www.pageflakes.com/deefleming11/15212275 I have made my own page too and added weather forecasts, a flake that lists local events in my community, my favorite blog feeds, and sticky note reminders of things I need to remember. Check it out if you get a chance and let me know what you think! Dee
I am so excited about this new website! It has tons of links just for homeschooling moms like me. All the work and research has been done for me by other gracious homeschool moms! Check it out:
No more guessing if a site is for teachers only,
No more wondering what a particular website offers,
No more guessing if the material you're viewing is free or not,
And no more jumping around from site to site to find something you need...
It's all done for YOU - by Homeschool Moms, like YOU. All Weblinks are Mom tested and Mom approved!
After one year of collecting "mom tested" weblinks, this site is finally done and ready for debut... come on by and take a look. Here is what you'll find on the website...

I love this website and thought I would share it with you all. In our art studies I tend to "dwell" on the artists and art that I really love and only touch on those that don't inspire or excite me. This site is good for me because it has a pretty wide variety of artists and makes studying a piece interesting.
On the main page you will find thumbnails of works by various artists. Clicking on a thumbnail will take you to the main page for that piece. First you read the story about the artist and study the painting, then explore the links provided. After you study your piece, they have a worksheet and coloring page for you to print out. Lastly, they even have a jigsaw puzzle of each piece for your child to work on! It is pretty neat. Here is the link if you are interested in checking it out: Famous Paintings Art Appreciation I plan on studying one piece a week with my boys. Click here for some more of my favorite art links Enjoy! This website has lots of good resources for preschoolers to 3rd graders. They have a ton of basic skills worksheets for math, science, and language. They also have cut outs, lesson plans, readers, themed murals and even mini books and vocabulary books. Best of all, everything is free once you register.
The address is www.learningpage.com
Here is a little bit of what they have:
Themed sheets - Oceans, Zoo, Dinosaurs, Reptiles, Insects, Space (each theme has math, science, language sheets, murals, lesson plans, and more)
Handwriting - worksheets using Zaner Bloser, D'Nealian, and cursive
Math - basic math skills, calendar pages, money, time, measuring
Enjoy! Dee
Do you like to read blogs?I enjoy reading several blogs and learn a lot from other bloggers but the problem is that I often forget to check in on my favorites. When I do remember, I then go on blog binges - going to all my favorite sites, reading endlessly to catch up on all the good stuff I missed!
Blogarithm has solved this problem for me.I go to their site, give them the web addresses of my favorite blogs and I get a BlogMail - a morning email listing all my blogs that have new content. It even shows you the first few lines of the new post.I really appreciate this because then I can only click on the links whose topic interests me instead of going to each blog each day (if I remember) to see what is new.I am a little embarrassed to admit this, but this might be the same as subscribing to a site's RSS feeds but I never have been able to understand what those are and how they work! This is nice and easy, and not difficult for a computer no-nothing like me!
Anyway, I love getting all the new information in one email that I can click away on "if" I choose.I don’t miss any good blog posts, it saves me lots of time, and did I mention that it is FREE? Check it out at http://www.blogarithm.com/ or at the box to your right.
Enjoy! Dee
This week in our Tapestry of Grace curriculum we are studying the art movement of cubism and the Spanish artist Picasso. I found a neat site where the boys can create their own Picasso like painting. They are having so much fun with it and we printed out their favorites to display alongside our display of Picasso's works. Check it out at www.mrpicassohead.com
Don't miss checking out the gallery! It will give your kids lots of inspiration. Enjoy!
We are a homeschooling family raising 4 boys in Virginia. This blog is mostly about anything relevant to raising boys or homeschooling in general - but every once in a while I can't help but add some nonsense from our daily life.
