To Be Sunshine For His Glory

His super power

My 8 year old son Sam, decided that his 3mos. old brother Daniel has a special super-hero-like power. Sam could be heard today, through giggles, telling Daniel to use his power on his sisters. When I asked Sam what this power was, he said, "the power to spit-up! "

Curriculum

A friend of mine gave me a bunch of Rod and Staff curriculum..what a blessing it was! Never used it before....have any of you? I am now trying to decide if I should buy the rest of what I need through them or if I should go with some other things. The only thing that I had already had was Saxon math for each of them. Time to get out the catalogs and start praying

I'm excited about a preschool activity book I purchased through the Old Schoolhouse. I'm going to make up a bunch of activities-in-a-bag for my kiddos to use while I'm homeschooling their siblings. Hoping that some of the ladies at church will join me....say you have 10 people who want to make activity bags, each person would make up 10 of the same bags and then trade. You then end up with 10 different activity bags.

I'm looking for ideas to keep my 2 year old busy while I school. She has a bag of play dough and dough tools that are exclusively used during school time. She also has a "school book" that she colors in and then of course there's snack time and nap time.

Any ideas from you experienced homeschool mamas would be greatly appreciated!

June 30,2007

It's been a year since I last was here. August 2006 we sold our house, September 2006 we were closing on the house and then Aaron was hospitalized with a lacerated kidney....he has a horseshoe-shaped kidney and because of it's shape and placement it was easily injured when he collided with his sister going down a zipline. By the grace of God he didn't have to have surgery and is doing well. In October, my bil fell off of his ladder while repairing his shop roof and broke his neck. Thankfully he was not paralyzed! My husband Brant helped, along with men from bil's church to put snow tires on the family vehicles, slaughter the cows and pigs and do all the other fall activities that are needed before the snow flies. In November my mil went into the hospital with a staph infection which is very serious for someone like her with artificial heart valves. She fought for three and a half months, but the Lord saw fit to take her home on Feb. 27, 2007. My husband visited her almost every day and the kids and I stopped by several times a week.  I was making the arrangements to bring her home to die when she passed. It's been very hard for the family because she was such a wonderful woman, but we are comforted knowing that she is with her creator. On April 11 of this year we were blessed with our newest addition, a sweet baby boy that we named Daniel. He has been such a blessing in the midst of the trials. He's now 2 1/2 months old and the apple of the childrens' eyes. My timer is beeping, so I'll go for now. I hope to write more later. ~Heather

Aaron's 6th Birthday

Today is my son's 6th birthday. Usually we have parties at our house and let the kids invite family, friends and neighbors. We do a pinata, games, and I make a cake. This year finances are a bit tight  and after a neighbor crashed my daughter's birthday and caused some problems, my  dh decided we should let Aaron invite one friend and take him somewhere special that he wanted to go. He decided on Chuck E. Cheese's and I found a couple of coupons. When we got there  yesterday(it's 40 miles away) they were closed for construction. Aaron then asked if we could go to a McDonald's playland(I'm thinking, we drove all this way to go to McDonald's???)  We went to one with a nice play area, had a happy meal, ate his tractor birthday cake and opened presents. He had a blast!! Then he wanted to go bowling and they weren't going to be open until the evening, so we told him we'd have to do something else. I was a bit surprised that he didn't complain at all and instead asked if we could just go home and play with his new toys outside. On our way home we had to make a stop for my friend to meet up with her husband. He is in the Army Guard and graciously offered to let us look around the hangar he works in. He let the children climb in a BlackHawk helicopter and explained how they're used, what the jobs of the crew members are and how they've used it recently to help some people. We spent a good hour with the kids fastening themselves in and out of all of the seats, touching the tools used to repair them, asking questions and learning. It was a homeschooler's dream and the icing on the cake of my son's birthday.

Today, on his actual birthday, we decorated the house, went to the library, had his grandparents over, had blueberry pancakes for breakfast and homemade pizza for dinner  and played outside. Just a few minutes ago Aaron said, "Thanks for a joyful birthday, Momma!" Here I was stressed because things didn't go as I had planned. Here was my boy just happy to do the simple things. I'm just so thankful for this reminder about what is really important.
