My son Sebastian Harold Andrew Nash (quite the monicker for a little guy) turns six tomorrow (November 14th). It's really hard for us to imagine, we got him as a foster child when he was just 2 1/2 and adopted him and his older sister a little over a year later. In some ways he's so innocent and young it's hard to realize he's growing older.
He's a pretty bright kid, he does have some speech delay from the neglect of his early years which contrbutes to his seeming young, that and he is a little small for his age. His speech and vocabulary have pretty much caught up now. He has a quiet raspy voice because he has Nodules on his vocal chords which he'll be seeing a speech therapist at the end of the month to learn how to compensate for.
Sebastian is a boy in every sense of the word. He had never seen a comic or a superhero movie but he took to spiderman, batman and superman just from seeing a picture of them, he loves to wrestle and play sports, he was picking up things and shooting them like a gun before he ever saw one. He loves adventure and has a great imagination. He's always building forts with blankets or amongst the trees and bushes in our yard.
He's tough, he once fell off our couch he was playing on picked himself up looked at my wife who had been warning and scolding him earlier about doing so, he got his compusure looked at her and said; "me ok, me no break neck" When he first arrived he could fall and scrape his knee and not even shed a tear, he would just point at the blood and grunt, now he'll play us for suckers to make sure he gets attention if he gets the slightest scratch.
He has an unusal outlook on growing up. There's a fellow in his early 20's at our church who comes over to our house regularly and was a leader along with myself at our church camp Sebastian just adores him and has actually invited him to his Birthday Party, if you ask Sebastian about him he'll say he's still a boy and not a man, now he doesn't make this assumption because he still lives at home or he's not married, but rather Sebastian astutely claims he is a boy because he doesn't have a beard, men have beards, and when I pointed out other men we know who don't have beards Sebastian astutely observes but they have kids.
He is my little buddy and I'm his "big buddy" We play swords we joke around together. Sometimes when I'm in the shower he comes in the bathroom and sits on the floor just to talk to me, he mostly just makes small talk but it's something special that he does and his sister doesn't. If you were to say something mean about me he'd growl at you and defend me vehemently. If Emma or my wife try to tickle me he'll quickly jump to my defence to ward them off.
When he grows up he wants to be a race car driver and a pastor, we wanted to be a bee keeper because he loves honey, but he decided being a race car driving pastor would keep him to busy so he wants to marry a bee keeper instead. He wants to build his house in our back yard over by the swing set is the spot he has picked out.
He is and always has been musical, he can't read all the words in our psalter but he has always been able to keep a tune humming or making "musical" sounds while we sing. He's written a few songs of his own including his Epic "Big Boy From America" the words aren't always the same but the tune is. He taught himself to play Piano but just watching his sister (who just started lessons) practice. He loves listening to music. And will break out in spontaneous song when he thinks nobody is listening.
He loves God, it's not just in being able to say the words but he lives it out in his life, one day a few weeks ago he was walking through our kitchen we have a a poster of the 10 Commandments on the back of one of our counters (at about my knee level) he walked by it and started to hug it, my wife wondering what he was doing asked him, he said "it's God's word, I love it". I mentioned earlier he wants to be a pastor, not an idea we put in his head one he has had for a year or so, he sometimes practices preaching, he has a whole little church service, his 2 stuffed dogs "Crusher" and "Oh Oh Puppy" are his church's elders he will make us sit and listen as he sings reads from his kids Story Bible (even though his reading isn't the greatest he explains the stories) he preach's a small sermon usually it's on the theme do good be nice to people, love God etc. he even delivers a benediction, he raises his hands and says "Bye bye guys" then leaves. He's learning the Westminster Shorter Catechism and can even recite some of the Longer Answers. And he loves to pray, though he sometimes gets embarassed when asked to when we have guests.
He's kind and generous to people and he has a loving caring heart. And he has a good sense of humour. The other day he made up a joke. We were out feeding the chickens and I asked him if we should bring in some food for Quack Quack (his stuffed duck ) he replied no he feeds him already. I asked what he ate, he promptly replied "Quackers"
My little Boy is turning six tommorow, I'm sad to see him grow up as I'll miss my little boy and am not looking foreward to that in the coming years, but I also can't wait to see the man he'll become and how God will use him. I Love you Sebastian and
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

A Father's Love
What a dear little boy - I love him and I've never even met him! He has a heart of gold. I hope one day he will realize how God has given him the greatest parents and realize how much they love him - he is one blessed little boy.
I pray he forever has that same lookout on life.

Hi
Hi!
I enjoyed reading about your little boy! :-)
I just noticed that I was on your friend's list, and I can't remember 'meeting' you before, so I was curious as to how you got my HSB name? :-) Did I leave a comment on your blog? Hmm... trying to remember... Or maybe you know my Dad (www.homeschoolblogger.com/withinthenorm)?
Anyways, I hope that you have a great day!

About Me
I'm a former resident of Nova Scotia, Canada, I relocated to PEI in 2005. I'm married and have 2 adopted children. I am a Reformed Presbyterian and attend the Free Church of Scotland.
I live in Middleton, Prince Edward Island, where my wife and I homeschool our 2 children. I run an Online Christian Bookstore.
I was raised Roman Catholic, when I was in University I was challenged in my faith over the next few I read Paul's Epistle to the Romans which convicted me enough to know I was on the wrong path, in 1996 I hooked up with Rev. John Shearouse who I had met when I was student and he was part of a student ministry. He had just come back to Halifax, to plant a new Reformed church and I started to attend and made a profession of faith.
I have been very active in Federal, Provincial and Municipal Politics, have managed many campaigns and having run as a provincial candidate in 1998.
