Pet or Dinner Dec. 3, 2007

Well we have a new pet/potential meal.

I live on Prince Edward Island, it's a quiet Island not many big game, no deer, moose or bears etc. so  what hunters hunt are water fowl.  On Sunday we went to friends of ours after morning church for the afternoon.  Before church they had found an injured Canada Goose (it had been shot in the wing) they had wrapped it tightly in a towel and brought it into thier home.  They weren't quite sure what to do with it, but since we raise chickens and turkeys they thought we might be able to so we agreed to take it in and see if we could help mend it.  They thought it would make a great meal, which it might.

We went home and put it in one of our barns (the one we vacate of chickens for the winter).  We made a small house around it of straw bails to help keep it warm.  This morning I went in unwrapped it and gave it some food and water.  It is hissing a little but actually seems quite good, we think it's just taking it's energy to try and heal.  So while fresh goose might sound good we also think it would be pretty cool to have a pet Canadian Goose (since it's wing was shot it might not be able to fly again, we're not sure yet)

We're not the bleeding heart Liberal type and we don't plan on running some type of Goose rescue, just the idea of a Canada goose as a pet sounds good.  So my wife and I made the following decision we are taking our turkeys into to be slaughtered on the 17th (just in time for people to have fresh turkey for their December Feast) so if the Goose seems to be adjusting to our care and not hissing or acting violently towards us we'll continue with helping it mend and will make it a pet of sorts, if we can rehabilitate it enough to fly that would be cool, we would release it, but if not we might have a new pet.  A genuine Canadian Pet.

I get it now...

Question: what does showing kindness to animals have to do with being a "Liberal"?

Not a Liberla theologically but more socially, it's not about being kind to animals it's those type who don't understand that some animals are meant for food and try to give animals rights.

About Me

I'm a former resident of Nova Scotia, Canada, I relocated to PEI in 2005. I'm married and have 2 adopted children. I am a Reformed Presbyterian and attend the Free Church of Scotland. I live in Middleton, Prince Edward Island, where my wife and I homeschool our 2 children. I run an Online Christian Bookstore. I was raised Roman Catholic, when I was in University I was challenged in my faith over the next few I read Paul's Epistle to the Romans which convicted me enough to know I was on the wrong path, in 1996 I hooked up with Rev. John Shearouse who I had met when I was student and he was part of a student ministry. He had just come back to Halifax, to plant a new Reformed church and I started to attend and made a profession of faith. I have been very active in Federal, Provincial and Municipal Politics, have managed many campaigns and having run as a provincial candidate in 1998.
