About a week ago I was introduced to a wonderful new book company that I absolutely fell in love with. What attracted me first was the name: Barefoot Books. I love going barefoot and that is usually how I'll be found, even into the late fall. There's just something about it that really makes me feel connected to the Earth. This is also a huge contradiction because I LOVE shoes. I have a ton of shoes. LOL So I love anything that invites me to go barefoot and to combine it with a favorite activity? So much the better. From Barefoot Books:
"At Barefoot Books, we celebrate art and story that opens the hearts and minds of children from all walks of life, inspiring them to read deeper, search further, and explore their own creative gifts. Taking our inspiration from many different cultures, we focus on themes that encourage independence of spirit, enthusiasm for learning, and sharing of the world’s diversity."
What isn't there to like about that statement? Barefoot Books publishes books mostly for ages between birth and age ten in three categories:
Fun First Steps: Engaging Young Minds
Tell Me a Story: Feeding the Imagination
One World, One Spirit: Broadening Horizons
That they have a huge emphasis on the arts is apparent in the stories chosen with their lush illustrations and vibrant colors. Their award winning ideas are very innovative and I can't wait to see what they're cooking up. What was founded as a home business by two moms in 1993 is now an international business! Barefoot Books “offers products that are thoughtfully written, beautifully designed and illustrated, and have high educational value.” There’s a huge variety of magical books available, many of which celebrate other cultures, as well as gift wrap, party invitations, audio cd's to some of their books, and original art. And these books a very unique in children's modern literature in that they are free of media, toy or candy references! Most of the paperback books sell for $6.99 and the hardcover books range between $16.99-19.99. Some of the gifts can be pricey, but they're certainly worth it. Especially in today's world of corporate consumerism. Barefoot Books is excellent to keep in mind for birthdays and holiday shopping for the kids this year! And with that, I am proud to announce that I am now an affiliate of Barefoot Books!

Love the books too? You have until October 16 to enter a drawing for Herb the Vegetarian Dragon at Crunchy Domestic Goddess!

Still want more? There is educational fun here and here.
