Today was nice. This morning we set off nice and early to go see a friend of mine. She has two children, Deedee and Charles' age. Of course, halfway there they insisted on a potty break so I stopped at the local Co Op. So, of course, then they were hungry and needed snacks. I debated it but in the end I gave in. It's much nice to have happy children with full bellies and enjoying themselves vs. the little monsters they would be if they didn't have anything to eat. My kids are very much ruled by their tummies. So they all got Bumble Bars and little milks. We then resumed our journey. But today was the day to dawdle, I guess because all in all it took almost an hour instead of the 25 minutes it usually takes. :( Ah, well.
The kids had a blast. There were lots of blocks, tinker toys, etc. Just the stuff that the kids love. There was also a complet set of a vintage Fisher Price town (and I mean super vintage; it belonged to her husband when he was a kid and he's in his forties now) that James really enjoyed. We had an interested two hours but then it was time to leave. We would just have time to get home, have a quick lunch and then head out to an Easter party the kidlets had been invited to. One of our local malls has a small play area in it and that's where we were headed. Carey was nice enough to give us a ride there (although it's well within walking distance) and the plan was for us to walk home. The kids did have a great time. A great pasta salad was served, each child got an Easter themed lunch box full of goodies and I was presented with a small canister full of homemade chocolate suckers. Yum. They were made out of some sort of soy chocolate and they were very rich.
James was very disappointed that there wasn't an egg hunt. He finally decided that it would be nice to have one at home so I was glad to have that issue resolved. It was a long day, all the kids were tired and getting a little difficult. However, everyone quickly perked up on the way home. Not only did we see a Red Wing Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus), but a pair of Mallard ducks ( Anas platyrhynchos) as well! I saw the drake first, from quite a ways off. But as we got closer, he was standing so still that I was starting to think it must actually be a decoy when it finally started walking across the path with his mate. At one point we were only a few feet away from the pair. It was pretty cool. James was really interested to see just how well the female blended in with her surroundings. I had an awesome photo opportunity to get a full side view of her blending in but my camera died just as I was taking the shot. :( But I still got some good pics of the two together. I'm hoping to be able to find the female again after she's laid her eggs and perhaps get some pics of the ducklings.
The musings of my childrens journey in the wonders of love, life, and spirituality. Love, Live, Laugh, and Learn. That's what it's all about. Welcome and blessed be.
