May. 21, 2008 - Sensory Integration Trials

Yesterday was a classic example of how a simple sensory integration problem can make for a traumatic morning.

Austin needed his fingernails trimmed badly, so I decided to just do it.  I put this one activity off for as long as I can because he hates having his nails bothered.  I don't mean he is uncomfortable or even that he just complains, he has an extreme physical response to nail trimming.  He sobs, cries, yells, complains, and then he calms down enough so I can start.  He told me yesterday that his fingers hurt afterward.  Now mind you I have never drawn blood or even cut too close, I just trim them.

Anyway, the job is done and I don't have to do it again for another 2 weeks, maybe.  :)
