You did not choose me, but I choose you and appointed you to go bear fruit - fruit that will last. John 15:16
I have a lovely garden. It is a raised garden. My husband painstakingly built my two foot high garden box. It is 4X8 feet and is perfect since I can weed it without getting on my knees. We bought dirt and manure and mixed in the right amount of rocks for drainage.
The day I went to pick out my plants was a lovely late spring day. We had already had 100 inches of rain and the weather couldn't have been prettier. I took string and laid out the 12x12 squares that would hold each precious offering and I watered and I waited. The sun turned hot quickly. Spring became instantly summer and my plants grow. They grew quickly. So quickly that all of the ground plants like cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage grew so quickly they went to seed.
Now I have six feet tall tomato plants that have a few flowers, it is 110 outside and we have NO BEES! I never realized how frustrated the Lord is with me when I am standing there in all my Christian splendor looking every bit the Child of the King and absolutely fruitless! Until this summer of fruitless vegetation!
I have always used gardens to teach my children parables. My favorite is always the Sower. And I love the Donut man's song of the same title. I always place seeds where they don't belong and place seeds where they do belong so they can see the scriptures come alive. But fruitless plants when you work so hard to give them everything they could possibly ever need, even MIRACLE GROW. Come on!
Am I really as needy and demanding and useless as these tomato plants? Lord, please let me bear fruit that will last and not be useless. And please send bees to help make my tomato flowers tomatoes. I really love tomatoes!
