When God closes a door....
I happened to see this bumper sticker today. "When God closes a door, He opens a window." Am I the only one that has trouble with this saying? It is cute, it is catchy and it is total disobedience. If I sent a child to their room and closed the door and caught them climbing out their window...sitting would be their next problem. If God closes the door, He is saying NO! He wants you to head a different direction and that direction always leads closer to Him. Why would you want to go where God does not want you to go? Do you really think you know better than God? Now you may try the door another time, later down the road and discover it is open to you. But the thought of sneaking out the window sends chills of rebellion down my spine. Nothing good ever comes from climbing out the window. As a rebellious teen I climbed out my bedroom window often and nothing good ever followed. My best friend had to nail her teen aged daughter's window shut! Boy was she surprised when she couldn't get back in the way she went out! The window is not another route; it is selfish, demanding disobedience. There is a narrow road and a wide road, one leads to destruction. We know this so we walk the narrow way. In Pilgrim's Progress some even attempt to get to the Celestial City by climbing over a wall, taking a short cut. This does not work. You can only get there through with Christ by the narrow road. The same is true with the window, it will not bring you closer to Jesus. If you truly want to be in God's Will, when He closes the door, Leave it shut!! Thank Him, Trust Him, Rejoice in His clear direction and by all means stay away from the window!

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment.
I agree whole heartedly that we must accept God's answer no matter what that is. If he says, "No" it is for our best for sure. I have complete faith and agree. I also have 5 sons and I expect respect, love and obedience from each of them, and they have been very low maintenance since we layed the ground work early with each of them.
But I think that the saying you speak of, "When one door closes, He opens a window" may mean something different than rebellion. But I am thinking if you see it that way than you should surely be careful not to use that phrase. Now, first let me clarify that I don't have this bumper sticker ,but I do have the blinkie on my blog. I had always heard the saying as, "When one door closes, another one opens" I have always believed it to mean that when He closes the door in one direction, don't lose hope, just look over your shoulder in a different direction because the Lord is leading you a different way through a different opening. Not to go and do the same thing at all, but something entirely different. So not to look at a door closing as a trap with no hope, but to see the door/window as another direction to go to something better. Now this has always been my interpetation of it. I could be wrong, but I have always found joy in that way of thinking. I hope I am not sounding like Im trying to debate with you, but I wanted to make sure if you saw my blinkie that I wasn't supporting rebellion.Rebellion is a serious thing that I have never taken lightly. I have really enjoyed reading through some of your posts, and I think you have a beautiful heart toward God.

Oh I didn't see your blinkies. But I loved your story. I agree that God always makes a way. That is one of my favorite worship songs. And I like the "If God closes one door he will open another. But the window thing...That is just such a pet peeve of mine. I see this word picture of all these people jumping out of skyscrapers like during the depression (: I have seen the Lord open amazing doors that I believe were camouflaged by the wall paper until He opened them. Doors that I never would have considered walking through I have skipped through.Jesus is so faithful and showing where we should walk. But if you know God has shut the door, banging on it and jumping out a window isn't the answer. So, it isn't that I don't think another way will appear , because I absolutely do, but I don't think it will ever be a window (unless your house is on fire and it is the only way out :) but then you have BIGGER problems!

Interesting conversation! I will always think of your post now when I see that phrase!
I think that is neat that you visited Bodega Bay, setting for "The Birds." I didn't even realize the connection, until I did a search for Bodega Bay on the internet! Thanks for making me more informed! I love gathering bits of "Jeopardy" type information! :-)

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I looked at the website you recommended...it really has a lot of information. It is just shocking! I don't think many people realize exactly what is going on....

I am glad the link was informative. I think the truth is something most choose not to see. The Supreme Court is about to take on Parial Birth Abortion, and that is a start. After all Roe v Wade has a line in it about since doctors can not agree on when conception begins how can they. However technology since then has done an amazing job of showing the world it is sooner than "they" believed it to be. Even commercially they are finding ways to detect pregnancy before you even miss your period because they know that a missed period is a clear indicator for most women that a baby is there. Anyway to make a dollar has always been the goal.(they have never offered free abortions) Thus they are now pushing for "a day after" you've had sex pill, over the counter. If you aren't even pregnant now they can make money and crush your spirit at the same time. The days of "just a mass of tissue" are long gone. People are smarter than they were in 1973, they just choose to ignore the truth. My daughter discovered that in the last three generations of our family there has been 25 births and 27 abortions. We are missing over half of our family.
