Encouragement Along the Way

Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.

A hot topic on Somerschool

Posted in Abortion

This week, Scott has been talking about teaching our Homeschoolers about abortion. He mentioned that it is part of health education and also has a link to an essay contest for Homeschoolers. This is a hard topic, because it pulls at our heart strings so much. . As a congregation, our small church long ago would pray at the abortion clinics weekly. Many women just needed a door to open for them, many came home and lived with church families and had their babies. For too many, that door opened after the procedure. The love and grace this body poured out on women of abortion healed so many broken women and broken hearts. There really are no degrees in sin. Divorce isn't worse than lying; stealing isn’t worse than abortion. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. All ....not those that we score higher on our "your sin is bigger than my sin" scorecards. I believe that is the part of abortion we need to teach our children besides the facts and medical procedures. Compassion not disgust and judgment. It is said almost half of the women and men in church have had abortions or contributed to the abortion of their children or grandchildren. They sit beside you every Sunday. Our church in New Hampshire taught me that the pain , tears and grief I felt was not the unforgiveness that I thought it was, it was not unforgivable because that is saying it is too big for God to forgive my sin which is pride. It was simply a mommie grieving for the loss of her child. The difference is, when a women miscarries, the compassion poured out on her allows her to grieve and begin healing. She will grieve her whole life, knowing someone she loves isn't there. And the world understands that. When you have a hand in the execution of your child, there is little compassion and you are instantly told to get over it. So when you don't get over it, you tell yourself, God must not have forgiven me or I would be past this by now. Each tear condemns you. When you hear that you are simply grieving for your precious baby and God's forgiveness is total, each tear is cleansing. God is a God of Compassion and we are to be like him. He has come to bind up the broken hearted, and set captives free. A woman walking into a clinic needs a hand reaching out to them offer a way out; a woman walking out of an abortion clinic needs arms around them. They will know you are a Christian by your love for one another. Even 34 years and 5 days later........ Some topics are hard.......

Thanks for venting with me, Sister! We'll definitely be praying for those November elections.

Thank you for sharing this difficult post, too. Much love to you--
I, too, can't wait for that trumpet to blow when we will all be caught up in the air! Life here on this earth seems SO hard! Come quickly, Lord Jesus!

Thank you for your encouraging note and your prayers! It means a lot to me to know that you are praying for me. I'm glad to hear that Tirzah is improving! I hope this new doctor can help her. You mentioned that her insides were doing better - was she having tummy trouble?
Uh oh my little guy just woke up so I better scoot!

Hi, I found your blog by blog surfing and read your post on abortion. I am right there with you. You probably are aware of it, but if you go to www.rachelsvineyard.org, there is grief support. I, too, speak from experience the hopelessness, the anger, resentment and grief of abortion. It took me many years to finally come to emotional grips with what my spiritual life already knew. You just no longer 'feel' worthy but you intellectually 'know' you are, kwim? I hate the hypocritical lie that is told to a young person to "get it done, it'll be ok, you won't worry about it, it's your only choice right now." and then when you do get it done, you're told "get over it, you had a choice, etc." Dr. Therese Burke (author of "Forbidden Grief") was very helpful to me.
Thank you for sharing and for allowing me to share.

About Me

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. This blog is a homeschooling devotional from a bubbe's point of view or watching the next generation excel where I only succeeded.
