I am my Beloved's and His desire is for me. Song of Songs 7:10
This verse was on our wall for years, It is the verse I am going to calligraphy on our bedroom wall above our headboard when we buy a headboard. The sight of my Beloved makes my eyes twinkle, my heart skip a beat ,my face blush. I remember sitting in the dining hall on an Italian Air Force Base with our travelling Missionary(our base was too small to even rate a chaplin) and the five other people that came to church. Because my Beloved was not a Believer at that time, he had never met Pastor Paul. Now when a person in fatigues walks into a Military dining hall, they all look alike, unless it is the one that causes you to be completely Twitter-patted. And that is what happened that day while we were eating our lunch. In walked my Beloved! And at that moment I received the nicest compliment. Pastor Paul turned to me and said, "I would have known He was your husband anywhere, you completely light up when he walks in." And you know what, I still do.
And if he is preaching I am mush! Really, I know a lot of Pastor's wives that either do not listen to their husbands preach because they would rather talk in the hallways or are angry because they argued on the way to church so they sit and fume. I however am enthralled. His words penetrate my heart, his prayers lift me to the throne room and my heart melts. My desire is for Him.
But the thing that amazes me most, is that His desire is for me. I know this is true because his hands and words tell me so. When I walk by he reaches out for my hand. When I am washing dishes and he walks up behind me and reaches around me, I sigh, audibly. My children have always grown up with public displays of affection. My grandchildren are growning up with Public displays of affection. They know that there is great passion and love in their homes and that brings security.
My husband grew up in a home where he never once saw his parents kiss or hold hands. My Beloved says that will never happen in his home, and it never has. Now, in actual public, that is different, as I said, He is retired Military and well PGA's are frowned upon on base, so I just beam and he knows.
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day and a Day dedicated to Chocolate is well worth celebrating. There will be candles and potipouri, special dinners and Chocolate hearts. There will also be grandchildren. Because as amazing as our love affair is, we want our children to experience it as well. So the Grandchildren will have a day knowing they are loved. Perhaps that is why three of the seven grandchildren have October Birthdays.
My prayer for you today is Passion! And for those of you with parents near by that will love spending the evening with your kiddos, I pray they offer and if they don't I pray that you will ask.
HOWEVER, if you are a Military family without family near by, I have the best solution for you. I know it is the best, because when we were not close enough to invite the grandchildren to come over, my children made our dinner a tradition. The preparation is simple. TWO tables set up for your dining pleasure, menues designed and decorated by the children, and a meal that they can serve. The rules...as wait staff they can only ask if you need anything and since staff is not aloud to speak to their customers, and since when you are out to dinner you DO NOT TALK TO STRANGERS, They get to be the Strangers tonight. You and your Beloved get to hold hands across the table, talk in hushed tones and NOT be bothered. Now you may need to remind them that they are strangers, but it is an awesome date and a wonderful tradition. (Fondue is good for this :)
Happy Valentine's Day! The word for the day is DESIRE!
