Which singers helped form your Passion for Christ???
First, I love old hymns Like "the Old Rugged Cross" They make me think of my Great Aunt Chris and Lawrence Welk, she sang along to both. When I was a new believer I sang "Amazing Grace","Trust and Obey" and "What a Friend we have in Jesus" all day long, everyday. They were the only songs I remembered from Sunday school.
That being said, as I have been reading Especially Heather's blog and listening to the songs she posts, (some I know , some I don't) I have been realizing the songs/singers that shaped my Passion for Christ are not the same as hers. I thought I would ask you a question. Which three singers/groups are responsible for shaping your Passion for Christ? I am noticing these things are very generational.
So here are the three that turned my heart to the Lord no matter the circumstance.
#1 Keith Green here is a lyrics sample http://www.delusionresistance.org/christian/keith/k07.html http://www.delusionresistance.org/christian/keith/k37.html
#2 Twila Paris Youtube video of two of my favorites http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pzu-jWpcdw
#3 and the Early Very Early 16 year old Amy Grant the Father's Eyes type http://amygrant.offramp.org/albums/ata/fb.html

Are you Living in An Old Man's Rubble?

Apr. 27, 2007 - Passion For Christ
Posted by ladyjane
Wow! Deja vu or what? As I was reading your post, the three main music artists who impacted my passion for Christ as a teen immediately came to mind. They were: Amy Grant, Keith Green and Twila Paris! We must be about the same age. The first ever Christian concert that I attended as a new believer was an Amy Grant concert. She performed on stage, sitting on a wooden stool with only her classical guitar to accompany her. Gary Chapman also performed in part of the concert. This memory is forever etched into my mind, and many days I will catch myself singing: Father's Eyes or Giggle. But praise the Lord I am not Livng in An Old Man's Rubble. Great question-thanks for asking!

to tell you her favorite hymns that bring her closer to Christ are in Latin. hahahahaha! My favorites are Ave Maria http://avemarialyrics.com/ and Dona Nobis Pacem http://www.ssmrocks.com/kimnovak/mt/songs/archives/dona_nobis_pacem.php My grandfather used to sing O Holy Night http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQWXfHzOKUU and if you can just imagine the power when the lyrics "Oh fall on your knees, and hear the angels voices, oh night divine." and I always get goosebumps.
Thanks for letting me remember my grandfather tonight. I miss him dearly and he was such a pious man that I can only hope to emulate in manner and speech. He loved to sing, his sisters also sing and I think my brother and I got the gift to sing (not much, but it's there if trained properly). And to hear this song again is just so powerful. I sang it with my choir back at Ft. Irwin and it was the last push I needed to get through the last three weeks of that year long deployment as I felt myself breaking down. I could hear my grandfather singing with us and just the power of the night (It was Chrismas Eve Midnight Mass), the power of that song let me know I wasn't alone and I can make it.
Ok, enough of the mushy emotional stuff... pregnancy hormones are getting to me because of that song. Sorry. :)

Rich Mullins! I was so sad when he died...I love the "Winds of Heaven, Stuff of Earth" album, and dh and I both have said that when the time comes for either of us to go home to Jesus, that we want "If I Stand" played at our funerals. The "Jesus Album" is another favorite of ours. I love his way with words.
I enjoy some of the older Amy Grant music as well, My Father's Eyes is a favorite.
Mercy Me doing "I Can Only Imagine" is a current favorite, but the artist most impacting lately is Jesϊs Adrian Romero, his "Te Darι Lo Mejor" and "Unplugged" Albums are tremendous Spanish worship!
