Another day at the fair
Posted in Grandchildren
Pictures will come, I just wanted to share with you our new experiences before I forget. Friday was "Kids get in Free day" so we returned to the fair. Heatherlee had to work the spinning booth again, and ride day was Thursday. Which made Friday, let's see all the exhibits, the circus acts and the sea lions and white Tigers day. We did not expect it to be birth day at the baby farm animals exhibit. Twin calves were born five minutes before we arrived. Actually the first calf arrived five minutes before we got there. Not knowing there were twins, NO ONE knew there were twins, we went outside and ate lunch before Heatherlee had to spin her yarn. But while we ate lunch, the twin arrive! It was very exciting. We learned something new. Did you know that when twin calves are born if there is a male and a female (as these were) the female is always sterile. That is your factoid for the day. Another calf was also born to a Swiss Milking cow, the kind you make swiss chocolate from.,What a lovely calf it is!
Pictures will come, I promise. Have a good time this week-end celebrating your freedoms with your family, and PLEASE remember to pray for our soldiers and their families., those still with us and those we have lost.
Because of Jesus, Bobbie

I couldn't remember which tag you tagged me with... but I did the one about 8 things about me...
It sounds like you are all having fun at the fair. The Monday before my Dad died, we all went to the Minnesota State Fair. In fact, it was why he and mom traveled up. When my Dad was growing up, the fair was their "family vacation." It isn't a trip to the beach or anything... but hey, there were 10 kids! Anyway, you have to get up early... eat breakfast at a certain place... go to barn to watch the dairy cows getting milked... machinery hill... the grandstand. There is a RIGHT way to do the fair ~

I've never seen an animal give birth in real person.
Wait, i take it back, i did see a butterfly as it emerged from the chrysalis, but that's not really a mammal.
OK, for that matter the only human births i've seen in person were my own. I think it would be so cool to witness such a miracle.
I wonder why the girl twin would be sterile? Hmmm...gotta be a reason from the Creator.

I wanted to stop by and thank you for visiting me in my "newbie-ness." Yep, I knew about the twin fact (isn't it called a "free martin" or something like that?). So you're not only a homeschooler but also the small-time farmer type? I've got stories that would curl your eyebrows about our farm experiences. I look forward to sharing them as the weeks go by. This is FUN! I "friended" you, if that's OK. Keep in touch and come on back!

Very interesting factoid. Good thing it is not true with humans.

well it was neat to see the pictures first and then read this post! that's neat there is a kids free day! i'll have to check if our fair has that, though they are young and may be free anyways :)
we stayed at the military place when we were in hawaii. since hubby is in the reserves we can stay at some of the locations :) we enjoyed it there....
the wine we liked was from weingut schales, located in he floresheim region in germany. it wasn't too expensive but real good. we liked there spatlese and we brought back 150 bottles!
one of the squadrons hubby was in was the blackcat squadron and when they deployed to europe a wine company made a special blackcat wine with the squadron patch on the label. that's why i asked about the wine :)
