Encouragement Along the Way

Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.

Psalm 34:3

I am home

Thank you so much for your prayers. I know they are the reason we had a wonderful time. They are also the reason we got there safely and returned safely.

I am so glad I had the computer with us so I could try to remember all the excitement of the day. Really You will not believe the beginning of our vacation so here I am at 11:15 PM typing to you. As we caravaned up to Lake Shasta it was our job to watch Uncle Will’s pontoon boat so it didn't fall off the trailer. The last bridge on the last turn before our stop, It tipped so far to the left it disconnected the right blinker and break light! But it didn’t fall off. I gasped and Mike said "Uncle Will that is not how you put the boat into the lake!" Putting them in to the Lake was hassel enough!

For Mike and I the moment we stopped for a light or the stop sign or the Rest stop, the Truck over heated. Driving through the mountains it REALLY over heated, so what is the solution as we are driving in 105 degrees??? Turn on the HEATER of course! This will cause the thermostat which is not working to do something to ease the problem and cool off the engine. So the last ½ hour of our drive was with the windows open and the heater on. Really except for the fact that I had on Flip flops so my toes were burning, other than that the inside felt like the oven outside!

Our spots were less than ideal since they were pretty tree less compared to the ohers, and we had tenters from Uncle Will's family that needed to set up tents and our spaces although they were "SUPPOSE" to have enough space, didn't. So a couple of them had to get yet another site. The good news is we were at the far left and they were at the far right with My sister  and Mike's Dad in between. That proved to be a great buffer to the loud drunken parties the evenings brought., which allowed for a great visit on OUR side. I kind of felt like Madagascar and being on "The Fun Side of the Island". Many would think their side was the funside, but their side had the loud arguments and fights when the drinking got out of control. It was Uncle Will's 71 st Birthday so gifts were practical like the anchor for his boat, and alcohol.

Highlights will come with pictures. I just have to wait for my sister to email them to me from her camera because I think that is the camera "I" am on. Believe it our not. I went tubing! Mike's dad had bought a new tube and it was wonderful! It was almost impossible to get on, and the laughter as I tried was deafening (Mine, not theirs) really I couldn't do it to save my life, if Jaws had come I would be legless today! But eventually from the boat deck I managed. And had a blast until I went Airborne and could not pull myself back up. So with my arms fully extended and my body frm the top of my thighs down in the water I was pulled for another five minutes yelling "STOP!" and my sister kept telling the driver (my HUSBAND!) "She wants to go faster ! She wants to cross the wakes!" Thank GOD he was smart enough to know that was not what I was saying, but NOT smart enough to stop! So finally I prayed and let go figuring that was the only thing they would understand! And they did! And I did not get hurt.

The saddest thing of all was the lake levels. While we were there it dropped a good 30 feet! The Marina we were docked at will be shut down by the end of the week. Last year the water levels were at the tree line, this year 100 yards lower in places. The Best thing was the visit I had with my sister. We had awesome conversations about so many things.

My sister's grandson learned to ski this week end and even managed to get up on one ski by the end of our trip. Our biggest causualty was Mike's 70 year old father deciding he also needed to go out on the tube. His first trip was awesome, but needing to show off ( I told Mike that HE will never need to impress me by being a fool at that age so don't even consider it!) anyway my FIL's fall from the second ride dislocated his shoulder which in turn pinched a nerve. This would hinder the LAST extravaganza which was the replacing of his Fuel pump! It died in our slot, so we waited a couple hours for i to come up from Redding, he and Mike put it in and we drove home. Again YOUR prayers got us through the week end! THANK YOU! Mike also fixed our truck so Igot to ride home with the heater off, but it was 109 outside until we hit Red Bluff!

Now that you have caught up with me I need to go catch up with you! Thank you so much for your prayers! I promise you pictures when I have them.

Wow. A mixture of trouble and fun. Sounds like a great time. Love the tubing stories. I've had a similar one. Store it in the memory books and revisit it everyonce in awhile. Enjoyed your story.

What a stressful weekend!
You have such a great attitude about it all. I'm sweating just imagining the heat!

I'm so glad our weekend wasn't that "exciting."
I left with the kids for the hotel before our family members got into the heavy drinking. How they sit in the sun all day drinking and not get dehydrated is beyond me.

I am so glad you are home safely.

Hi, I am glad your kids were safely tucked away. Knowing what was going to happen, we (Mike and I) didn't even consider bring our grandchildren. And the way the boys watched the bikini clad teens waking by I am so glad I didn't.

Bobbie,

It sounds like you had a wonderful time. I might actually give a pinkie to see you trying to get on the tube!

Blessings,
Hallie

Oh Hallie You can keep your pinkie, I like you typing to me, so you need to keep it. I will post pictures JUST because I need to prove I did it. My sister's camera has pictures of ME so I have to wait to get them. I believe there is even one of me struggling getting on the tube.. If there is I will post it just for you! Sounds like alot of fun! I love to go tubing! I learned when I was 16. Can't water ski if my life depended on it, but can tube with the best of them! It's the "redneck yacht club" that I'm a part of! hahahaha! And yes, I drove from CA to WA last fall. I recall stopping at a "look-see" point because my cell rang and it was my DH doing one of his rare calls from Iraq. Where we stopped we had a GREAT view of Mt. Shasta right in front of us. It's gorgeous country up there! I'm glad you had a good time and I'm very thankful you made it back safely! T

Bobbie, Glad you survived the weekend. :) Tubing is a blast isn't it!?

Notwithstanding the rowdy relatives, it sounds like you had a humorous time.

About Me

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. This blog is a homeschooling devotional from a bubbe's point of view or watching the next generation excel where I only succeeded.
