On Tuesday Morning my daughter loads her six chilrden into the minivan, comes and collects her Mother (me) as we drive down to the Farmer's Market for our weekly fruits and vegetables. This is our routine from June through October. Today is a special day, we took Flat Stanley with us.
Because we parked at this end of the church parking lot our first stop was the Statuary seller. Now we have never bought statues from him yet, but in the weekly drawings Jaden has won a Turtle and a Squirrel. The rafflle off bags of fod and everything else the Market has to offer, FREE.
Zemeira found a house just Flat Stanley's size.
Then we went over to the Honey Stand. This is were we buy 10 honey sticks for a dollar and everyone is behaves "Sweetly" because of them. Kezziah is in front then Zemeira and Tirzah. Flat Stanley could not wait and is standing in the Honey sticks.
This was our bargin of the day! Flat Stanley found Honey Kist Nectarines on sale 20 for a dollar! The grandkids asked the woman at the counter if they could have a case for five dollars. She counted them out of the case all the way to 100 and gave the kids the rest. We came home with 150 Nectarines for jams and cobblers. Which is awesome because Heatherlee is allergic to peaches.
Tirzah, who does not eat anything spicy nor aything with sauce, took Flat Stanley to the Tamale man to buy a Tamale for Zemeira. This is Zemeira's special treat when coming to the Market. They eat Kosher, so it is a chicken Tamale. she will sit under the tree waiting for the Free drawing eating her Tamale. They did NOT have a drawing today
This is Karita's homemade soaps and oils. We LOVE her chapstick! The fragrances are divine.
After fnishing this half of the Market Stanley was a little tuckered out, so he went to Tizah and Kezziah's girlscout leader Lynn for a Massage! They are a dollar a minute (reminds me or brier Rabbit working in the corn field for a dollar a minute) . She does amazing work, so Flat Stanley is up and read to explore some more when she is done working out the wrinkles.
Jaden and Zemeira take him to our fruit vender. This is where we buy apricots , plums and plouts! Do you know what a plout is? But today he had lovely grapes and he gave them all one to taste, and an Asian Pear.
Flat Stanley could not believe the size of these Chinese Long beans. Everytime we go to the Farmers' Market the grandchildren have to pick out somethng new to try. when they picked long beans a while back, we steamed them tied in knots. They loved them!
We had stopped to buy a cantalope, but we realized we had not yet bought our "something new". So Flat Stanley picked out a Crenshaw Melon larger that He was. It was delicious!
This is some of our bountiful harvest of the day. I mean we couldn't actually put 150 nectarines on the table. You wouldn't have seen the 10 cucumbers!
Do you know what we have here? between the nectarines are sweet peppers on either side; my grandchildren eat them like carrots. Most of what they eat is raw fruits and veggies. In front between the peppers is an Asia pear, Tomatoes and a bunch of basil for our Tomato- Basil sandwiches. Now is the fun part. Flat staley is standing beside the Crenshaw melon and the grapefruit; next to that are the cucumbers four different kinds! The round yellow ones are lemon cucumbers, the long like green ones sticking up in the middle are Armenian cucumbers and last are white and green cucumbers. Not bad for 20.00!
Tomorrow for show and tell Flat Stanley will take you on another trip! He raelly is a wonderful guest. If you would like Flat Stanley to come and visit you. or if you would like to learn more about flat Stanley, visit Training hearts. we are having such a great visit!
