A Day of New Beginnings
I woke up this morning and told my husband, we need a name for today. It can not be a day of deliverance, because God already took that one with Passover. But today needs a name! So He said how about "A Day of New Beginnings". And I love that! It fits perfectly.
You see, 15 years ago( wow has it been that long) I also woke up, but at 6:45 am. How do I know the time? Well Brian Norcross was going to be speaking on our TV at 7:00am and we needed to hear what he had to say. What he had to say was Hurricane Andrew had a date with Homestead, maybe. That is where we lived. So we listened closely and went outside to begin lowering our Hurricane shutters. He continued to say Hurricane Andrew may come in as a Catagory 3 (It was a Catagory 5). My hurricane safety map says we are in a safe area for up to a Catagory 5 because we are far enough away from the water ( Andrew unlike Katrina was a dry hurricane). We filled our bath tub with water, shoved crumpled newspaper in every nook and cranny of our fridge and but together a small box of essentials incase we had to go to the shelter (which we wouldn't be able to do since at that moment Mike and the car was called in to go batten down the Air Force Base).
During these preparations I sent two kids to find three sets of clothes. One to wear, one to wash , one to change into as we clean up the minimal mess I was assured there would be by my native neighbors. Heatherly having just returned from Isreal the day before was in a stupper...I should have checked her clothes. Matthew got his and was grinning with excitement as a 14 almost 15 year old boy would do! They went in our just incase box! My Daddy called and I told him we were staying put and assured him we would be fine.
Mike laid hands on his family prayed Psalm 91 over us and kissed us good-bye. If God had not intervened it would have been our last kiss. But God did intervene and when Mike arrived at the Base his commander asked if we had evacuated safely. Mike said "no, we only have one car and my wife doesn't drive, so I am here and she and the children are at home. " His commander told him to turn around go home load us in the car and drive North without stopping immediately. And that is what he did.(well we stopped and got Larry and Rita, but that was God's plan too)
And that is how my day began 15 years ago today! A Day of New Beginnings! Thank you Lord Almighty, the God that hears our prayers and answers them, the Lord who delivers His people and does great and mighty works that we cannot even imagine.
A few of you are now reading ALL of the miracles God did for us because you won "Adventures Along The Way" during the 2007 Homeschool Open House. You will discover how Psalm 91 unfolds in the lives of a homeschooling family on the run from Hurricane Andrew. (Enjoy it Lori!) The rest of you can find it here at Bubbe's Place. If PayPal makes you nervous, email me we can work something out
There is something about this time of year (Hurricane season) that brings me to my knees. Please pray for the latest hit by Hurricane Dean. I did not say Victims because I believe there are no victims, only those placed in God's care awaiting a New Beginning. God constantly tests the hearts of his people,(not the Government) to see how we will respond. Mexico has a wide open Mission field as of this week.
Thank You Jesus for New Beginnings!

I am soooo glad I don't live near a place threatened by hurricanes. I will pray for your family dearly during this season. Every day is a new day. Makes me think of a quote. Author unknown. "Don't think about yesterday, yesterday is gone. Tomorrow isn't written yet, so make today your song." That's very fitting for us singing gals, don'tcha think? :o) I haven't dived into your book yet, b/c I know when I start it I won't want to start. Maybe this weekend!
Blessings,
Lori

Thank you for your warm welcome at my blog. I am a newbie at this, so I am still learning the ropes. I was blessed by your post on new beginnings. God is so good, isn't He? I can see several points in my life where He has blessed me with a new beginning. Marriage was one for me and I am astounded by His mercy to give me such a godly husband. It is nice to meet you. ~Courtney

It is funny, I was just emailing the note on the NOAA about "on this day in weather history" to heatherly; seh sent me to read your blog. It is crazy how such a big devastating storm can affect one part of a state adn other parts get nothing more than a bit of winds and a few clouds-oh, and a day off of school . I lived in Valrico, fl at that time in history. I remember we got the day of cause the school we went to was a safe house-or whatever you want to call it. I remember being so disappointed that we didnt' get affected by the hurricane...we only got winds and some clouds...not even rain! Now, i am humbled and my disappointement quieted ; who would ask or get excited about such devastation? anyway, i am glad you all got out safely! I have been through or threatened by hurricanes...it seems that GOd had mercy on us, but there is usually someone who gets hurt. (i was in hugo who was headed for myrtle beach, but veered north towards wilmington and the out banks -that got a bit destroyed) .

Thank you for sharing such a uplifting part of your life. It has encouraged me in knowing what God is doing in my life, even now. We (my family) have been given a new beginning by God. I thank God for the closing out of the old and bringing in the new. God bless you today and always.

What a story! Praise the Lord for his mercy. Those kinds of experiences change a person forever.
Losing pictures would be very difficult but I suppose you just accept it and gone on.
Thankful you're here today blessing others. :)
