My show and tell blessing
Posted in Tags
We have so much fun doing our Show and Tell with Canadagirl. If you would like to join the fun instead of watching it, you can go over to Canadagirl's blog and add your name to Mr Linky after you post something you want to share with us.
My show and Tell this week is about unexpected blessings. This week was filled with them. My favorites will be in this post.
It all started when the charter school that rented space from my FIL announced that after five years they were leaving and merging with another Charter school at their location. This month they moved out. These pictures are of the things they threw away.

Yes that means this was all free! Let's start with the full sized 3-D skeleton that is now proudly hanging in the office.

This is two full sets of geological specimens. The first rock set is of 32 and has a listing of what they are. The only one missing is a pumice stone. Since we almost live at the foot of an active volcano this should not be hard to replace, oh wait, I use one of those to clean the toilet, problem solved! The second set has over 100 rocks but no listing. We will be doing a lot of classifying (unless you have a list...If you have a list, would you e-mail me a copy?)

This is my favorite find! TWO beautiful Microscopes one with a camera attachment. The only thing missing in the full kit is a scalpel and a butterly card. That's all that is missing! The full set of slides is also missing one (1) slide.
I guess they figure the state will just use my tax money and replace them instead of carrying them to the new building. Or maybe the new building has too many already. Either way, God blessed my socks off!
Now my daughter also was blessed tremendously. While she was in the Christian Bookstore talking to the Sues, a woman came in to sell her Homeschool curriculum to them. The Sues didn't even have a chance to put them in the back room before Heatherlee snatched them up.

Do you know what this is??? A full set plus the supplement for older kids set of Beautiful feet History! And a few other books like A Reason for Science and Rod and Staff Books. About 400.00 worth of curricula and she spent...are you ready.... 30.00! Yep she almost stole it!
Now this is the History material I had been finding in the backroom over the summer I spent about 10.00. So when we blend the two together. School is going to be so much fun this year!

Now in the midst of all of these amazing books in the lower left corner are two unit studies for Middle school aged students (or even High Scool if you have missed this area). Vol. 1 Of This Far By Faith and Vol 2 This Far by Faith are created by With A Taste of Chocolate to expand our understanding of American History by including all Americans, of all ethic backgrounds in light of God's world. This is so much better that the typical "European" mindset of American History. And the Time line is so extensive. There are exerpts at www.BlessedHeritage.com. Check in to them, you won't be disappointed. And yes EVERYONE needs a complete view of American History because no matter where they came from or how they got here WE ARE ALL AMERICANS, Eurpoean, African, South American , Middle eastern or Asian....Americans all!
Oh I am so ready to get to school. Once Tirzah's labs are done next week, off we go! Please remember to keep her in prayer.

Apples like Granny Smith Apples , Crab apples have enough pectin that you don't have to add any. The key is to bring it to the jelly stage. [0=

Wow, what incredible blessings!
My boys would be drooling over those rock specimens. And the microscopes have me feeling a bit covetous.
The books Heatherlee got are an amazing deal. Very cool.

Hi Bobbie! I could use a skeleton in my office. lol
Great finds, especially the microscope. My dad squirts bugs with alcohol then examines them under his until they wake up. It works.

Dear Bobbie, I want you to know I am praying for Tirzah out here in California. I tried to click on the link to her condition and kept getting the current page. I wanted to read up on the condition but no luck. I am praying for the Lord to heal her completely, whatever the condition. And what a beautiful girl she is!!! All of your grandkids are beautiful and sound like such a blessing to you. ~*~Love and Prayers from Ca.~*~ Laurie
Hi Laurie, I don't know if you come back to see my answers to your questions or not, but I fixed the problem with Tirzah's catagory.
Thanks for telling me it wasn't working.
Because of Jesus, Bobbie

Song for the day ~ Psalm 48
"GREAT is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King."
Blessings,
Lori

My eyes bugged out at all the science stuff! Hungry eyes, at that.
So...do you homeschool your grandchildren? Or do you still have kids at home (my youngest is 16)? If you homeschool your grandchildren then I will make sure my daughter never hears about you. LOL Sometimes I think she would like me to homeschool hers once a week. I did homeschool her DS 1 for 3 months last winter. It was fun, but.... I think I'm running out of steam after 20 years. How about you?
Oh, about the picture of my grandbabies: they are looking forward in THIS pose. Do you know how many times I snapped the digital camera to come up with one where they were all looking at me at the same time?

Thanks for sharing about your role with sharing teaching with your daughter. That's lovely! I can't remember, but do you have other children (and grandchildren), also? How do you balance the time between them, if you do? I find that for me, it's best if I give advice (she asks about what curriculum to buy), print out lab notebooks for her apologia science, help get goal cards ready, and gently help her balance her perfectionist ways ("Are you sure Nathan's learning everything he should???") with the reality of ENJOYING her homeschool experience, it works better for our relationship. I'm a teacher, I love to teach, and there are things I feel are important that she has trouble being consistent with. If I were over there "team-teaching" I feel I would take over. That would NOT be good. We have a wonderful relationship, and I want to keep it that way. I know she would love me to do a once-a-week 'satellite school' but I think I am beyond that season. I did it for so long and I know how much prep work it is. I buy her "good deals" too, when I come across them at used curriculum sales. :-)
We sound very much alike, Bobbie! I'd love to meet you some time. Enjoy your school year with your grandkids!
I am blessed, like you, to have both sets close by. I hope to do some trips to the zoo with them (and the moms!) this year.
