Show and Tell with Canada Girl
I love Show and tell withCanadagirl One because she lets be just do tells when I forget the Show part and Two because It can be so special and sentimental it makes you cry or so silly you are left wondering why.
Today I actually have a show to go with my Tell.
As you know Every Tuesday we go to the Farmers Market and pick out something new to try. This has been a lot of fun and taught the Grandchildren to be very brave. After all you never know when someones salvation depends on you eating a grub!
This wek a small Asian woman talked me in to buying a "Buffalo Squash"
I do not know what they are really called and if that is their true name or not. But we bought it!

This is Jaden holding our prized catch of the day! We were told we could eat it raw or cook it.

This is the inside!
The taste is very hard to explain. It has the watery texture of a watermelon and crisp like a cucumber , It was so juicy and the grandkids loved it raw! It is very mild like the Armenian Cucumber was and when it was cooked the flavor wasn't strong enough to carry it through the dish. We decided ands down we love it raw. And it is so large it has feed them three times already!
If you know this treat by any other name than Buffalo Squash, let me know.

Well, I've never heard of such a squash. Looks like Jaden is pretty proud holding that thing, though. I know I ate some very weird "fruits" in costa rica. I never figured out what they were because my friends told me what they were in Spanish, and didn't know what the English counterpart was (if any). Kudos to your brave grandkids!

I have never heard of a buffalo squash. We like spaghetti squash though. It sounds like a very nice tasting, healthy snack for the little ones.

Sounds to me like it would be something the Indian's grew. I'll have to call my Dad and ask him. Maybe he might know something about it. One thing for sure it's huge. Great and interesting S&T, thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Debbie

Oooh, that looks like something I'd like, and might end up eating the entire thing alone.... I love your strategy to have your grandkids try something new each week! (You are so right about the grub.)

Oh, I bet I'd love buffalo squash, b/c I love any type of melon and my favorite veggie is cucumber. What a neat way to spend your Tuesdays. We really don't have anything unusual like this at our markets.
Blessings,

Hi Bobbie, I am just checking in to see how Tirzah is doing.
She is in my "Fix It" prayer list and I pray for her as she comes to my mind throughout the day. By the way, I love the
buffalo squash post. My 2 1/2 year old grandson Isaac would love to get his hands on one. Not to eat necessarily but to dissect it and get to the seeds inside. He is fastenated (sp) with tearing things apart to see what is inside! Hope you are having a blessed week and your family is in my prayers.
Love, Laurie in So. Ca.
