It's Show and Tell ...It's show and tell....

I love Show and Tell Friday's with CanadaGirl. Everyone shares such fun adventers and heart wrenching memories..You laugh , you cry, you reminisce...What a great end to the week.
While my Sister Carolyn was visiting, we took the grandkids to a little known place just outside of town in Toad Town. It looks very much like a Shanty town of about 10 homes. But at one home is a sight beyond belief. A wall created from Gem stones and minerals.
This is Kezzi and Zemeira at the beginning of the wall

This is what they saw

This is my sister Carolyn with Kezzi explaining the various rocks (my sister is really knowledgable about everything!)

This is Great Grandpa Al, he has been wanting to take the kids here for years.

As I watched Malachai, Tirzah and Talia I couldn't help but think of the Book "Old Hat New Hat "Thinking Too rough, too shiny, too smooth, too tiny....

This is an awesome field trip and NOT a small wall. Can you see it wrapping around?

The wall took seven years to create and Jaden examined every rock in the wall!

When I saw this I thought It was an Indian relic. I was wrong, it is natural cast Iron. And above it is a seabed fossil, fossilized seashells. They are so pretty.

How lovely is this...

As you look at this craftsmanship, he did not cut one stone. He set them to fit as hey were shaped. He bought about 17 tons of partial cut rocks from a Gem cutters family that just wanted to get rid of them when he died. He paid $17,000.00.

If you get tired (and you are the size of a Barbie doll) you can sit here

The girls really liked the rose quartz. When the sun hits this wall it is brilliant! The circular core sample is from the building of Oroville Dam (upper left corner)

This one is opened, but I got to bring home an uncut geode

All of the Grandkids loved the fossils.

And in case you are wondering ...the sides of the wall is just as impressive as the top!

This one is copper ore I love the patina.

I couldn't flip this and Mike had to go to work. But it is too awesome to not Share. Jaden at rest! He can be so pensive when he isn't running. 7 year old boys are amazing treasures.

As you know my granddaughters are princesses. And what can be more royal than walking on this wall. Kezzi asked if this is what Heaven wil be like?

My grandchildren love playing Indians and what is better than using real artifacts.

Notice that the wall does double back on itself.

a dinosaur bone!

This is a rainbow rock! It contains Gold, Silver and Copper.

We were invited by Karl who lives on the property to come back to where the rocks had been dumped and search the ground for treasures to bring home.

Here they are washing off their treasures. We brought home Orchid quartz, green jasper, Quartz spears with gold flakes and many more.

As we walked back to the cars we were greeted with a surprise. I swarm of ladybugs. All those dots are lady bugs!

Every sparkle was a ladybug and they squealed with delight as they landed on them and a few even came home with us, making the trip home very shreaky as they landed on one child after another.

I hope you enjoyed our geological expedition!

I showed this to my dgt and we enjoyed our on-line geological field trip of your post. She said, "Can we go to that wall?" We loved it and had fun looking at all of the beautiful stones.

Marissa loved the wall of rocks and fossils too! Thanks for sharing.
Uh... I have to say those swarms ~ in Minnesota we don't have that many ladybugs anymore. We do have a ton of Japanese beetles. They are swarming now too; each one looking for a warm place to overwinter. The Japanese beetle will "taste" whatever it lands on. It kind of hurts. Oh, once it decides you are not good for food, it stops and doesn't leave a sting or an itch like other buts. Plus they have an odor. Marissa and I find them annoying ~ it doesn't help that they swarm at the same time as the box elder bugs.

What a beautiful wall. It amazes me to think of all the different stones and other materials that went into it were all created by God and then placed perfectly in this wall by a man.

That is so cool!
My grandfather had an amazing collection of rocks and gems. I brought home quite a few for my boys when he died, but they are mostly in boxes. Maybe we'll have to build our own wall someday......

What a gorgeous wall. I would love to have that in my garden. Your grandchildren are such great adventurers and of course they have help! My grandson would love this wall as he loves rocks and stones and anything that sparkles. I would have to drag him away!!! The property this is on is so breathtaking and heavenly. Living in So. Cal at the coast all my life, I forget there are wide open spaces to be explored. Thank you for the adventure, I really enjoyed it.
Love you, Laurie in Ca.

What a wonderful trip, it felt like I was their. The guy whom did the wall, did a wonderful job. I wouldn't mind taking our children to see something so wonderful as the wall. Great and colorful S&T.

Oct. 19, 2007 - I love rocks!

I have always LOVED rocks, and collected them from my childhood. I would go absolutely nuts in a place like this. Where is it? Toad Town does nothing to spark recognition. We are going to San Francisco Christmas break (IF I get my book finished, so I can fill in the research gaps) and I'd love to take a look at this place!

How cool. I wanna go to Toad Town. What a fun way to study rocks & sediments. When I saw the pretty stones inside of the rock wall, I thought of myself (MiryClay) -- Jesus is my rock! "Rock of Ages Cleft For Me"

( I thought I left a comment, sorry ((blushing)) ) I LOVED reading this post. Oh, how I would love looking at that wall. Wish I was there !!! My next door neighbor growing up had the BEST rock pile ever !!!! Her husband was a rock cutter. He did all kinds of things with special rocks. He would engrave things like he did for my 1st birthday. He engraved Happy 1st Birthday and the date, year, and place. I still have it to this day and love how when you look through it it looks like a sunset. Over the years after he passed away we were aloud to pic through the rock pile and find ALL kinds of treasures. I think this is one of many favorite memories.
Blessings and ((hugs)) my SSiC

Hey, lady, I hadn't heard from you in a while, so I wanted to check in and make sure that all was okay. I see that you are very busy with these beauties, and some great pics. I could only see 1/2 of them for some strange reason, but I enjoyed every bit of what I saw. You tell a great story, almost like looking through a picture book.

Love this WALL! That is soo cool. Thanks for sharing.
I hope things are well. I have been over-the-top busy and have had to curb my internet addiction. So I have not been around the blogosphere much lately. I am going to attempt to put a post together tonight.
Blessings,

Hi! Thanks for the comment. That is such a beautiful wall. My brothers are away at the moment, so I can't wait to show it to them. On holiday I found a fossil on VERY big rock. It was really cool.
