My New Year's Verse and Why
Posted in Bible Study
Hebrews 13:16
Don't forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to God
I have been considering my New Year’s Entry. Every year the Lord gives me a new verse to consider for the year. Last year it was Psalm 28:7 Psalm 28:7.The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song.
As I look over the entries for this year I can see the Lord fulfilling His Word in a million ways. The Lord brought many songs into my year. First He gave me MiryClay for a friend and the songs we share bless my heart. As I look over the antics of the Grandchildren, Musicals have been a new direction for all of them From the Easter Play to the Christmas Eve Play. There is an old Psalty Song sang by Charity Church mouse “Jesus put a song in my heart , He turned my Life Around He gave me a treasure the Heart of a servant. Jesus put a song in my heart a simple melody that sings of His wonderful Love.”
And Jesus not only gave me the Song, but I was given an opportunity to serve as I taught a Women’s Bible Study at our church. And as this year’s verse said My heart leapt for joy as I was to share Contagious Joy to these amazing women. What I did not know was that when we came to the Chapter on Count it All Joy, I would be told my SIL passed away as I entered into the classroom. The Lord truly does want me to learn things “experientially” He always has.
Jesus would prove to me over and over through out the year that I can Trust Him, that He is my shield and my Protector. My Heart Trusts in Him.
And this brings me to my verse for this year. You see my heart has to Trust in the Lord because like you I have children (and grandchildren) that I trust the Lord with completely. Jesus is not only my Lord, but He is their Lord as well.
This year my Granddaughter will be raising her finances to go on a missions trip to RWANDA. This is the same place “Hotel Rwanda” is about, have you seen that movie? Or have you Read “Not on Our Watch”? You all have read about her practically leaping over the pew when there was a call for Missionaries to Africa. The Missionary she spoke too told her she would have to pray for her healing because Africa would not let her come in her present condition. So she prayed and when she was in the hospital throwing up blood and the doctors still don’t know why, people from church came and prayed. When she went to the Doctor’s in Dec She had the best report she has had in three years and the doctor said, “Yes, you can go to Africa!”
Since her Bat Mitzvah, this young woman has been recycling her way to Africa and saved over $300.00 in recycled cans. A woman in my class gave her all the loose change she had been saving. Tirzah is truly nickel and dime-ing her way to the Aids Orphans in Rwanda.
My verse for the New Year has to do with all of this. It has to do with the Grandchildren giving up their presents at Chanukah so they could send the money to SaveDarfur, collecting signatures to Stop the Human Slave Trade , making a difference little by little. I see their hearts stirred and moved to action.
The Message puts Hebrews 13:16 this way; Make sure you don't take things for granted and go slack in working for the common good; share what you have with others. God takes particular pleasure in acts of worship - a different kind of "sacrifice" - that take place in kitchen and workplace and on the streets.
I am sure threw the months to come we will be having bake sales and car washes, “working on the streets and taking place in the kitchen” to try to raise money for Missions.
We have learned not to take anything for granted not our health, not our finances, not our family relationships. So in order to take up a little of the slack and put this verse into action, we have decided that this being January and the best time to start a new Devotion, that all the proceeds from the Sales of my devotionals through the Website the whole month of January will go to Tirzah’s Missions Trip. If you would like to be a part of this “Act of Worship” You are welcome to join us. You can pick up a New Devotional for 2008 Here Either one
Encouragement Along the Way, ( I am told I only have 20 copies of this currently)Or
Adventures Along the Way.( Since this is an EBOOK the supply is unlimited) Both are filled with many “Experiential Moments as the Lord teaches me Lesson after Lesson. Or if you have loose change laying around or cans you want to recycle, I have a donation Button on the Right Hand column by FAMILY for Tirzah’s Missions Trip. And if you would please pray for our family, for Grandparents that find it easier to Do than to send, for Parents that have children with big dreams and bigger hearts.
I will be posting more about Tirzah's Mission Trip throughout January.
Happy New Year to you and all your family. May you all draw closer to Jesus this year and find new ways of expressing His love to one another

I just ordered your encouragement along the way for my DD, Kristel. She IS in the thick of things, and just last night she was asking me if I had anything for her to read, since the Lori Wick (fiction) book was boring beyond words. I think short, snappy devotions especially for her homeschool journey would be just the ticket!
Hope to see it soon!

Leviticus 20:26 says, "You must be holy because I, the LORD, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own."
It is my goal for the year (my life) to pursue holiness....

Hey, I saw that you were online and decided to stop in and say hi. Song of the Sagebrush told me to stop by for this verse after I posted about Nehemiah 3:3, and then you came over before I could get here! I am wishing you God's continued favor in 2008. I'll get back to you on my verse for the year, although Nehemiah 3:3 might be it. Also, our daughter might have an opportunity for a missions trip this summer as well. Ironically enough, she's most concerned about the food, given her picky eating habits.

Mine is the whole Bible in context. I would fear that I would be like some written about in Scripture who focused on tithing the cumin, the smallest things, etc and neglected the more important principles of the born-again faith. Also, I didn't read that Jesus or the apostles ever modeled singling out and using specific verses for the early Church believers.. let me know if there IS an exception. But I do have goals... listed on my HnS blog ;)
Thanks for stopping by curiouscat :) Do you recognise Pismo beach, or did you visit the beaches around Santa Barbara more?

By your remark I am assuming you either think I am taking the Word of God out of Context or I do not read the whole Bible. Both would be incorrect assumptions. The Lord has been faithful to prayerfully use a scripture for me to meditate on over the year and for me to reflect on how HE applied it to my life during that year. That is what this post is about, nothing more.
As for Jesus modeling or using Specific verses, how about in the synagogue when He read Isaiah 61 and said this is fulfilled in your sight? Or when Jesus took all the laws( not ten but 613) and summed them up in Two? And when tempted in the wilderness Jesus constantly responded with one verse. In Acts the disciples did not use the whole Word of God at one sitting to explain the gospel, nor does any pastor I know. They use a passage, a Chapter and sometimes just a thought to penetrate the hearts of others.
I did not PICK this verse. Prayerfully the Holy Spirit placed this verse upon my heart. It is just what I do. And He is able to lead me because I do read the whole Bible.
As for the beach....We are so much farther North than any of those. Our closest would be Eureka. But I grew up in Santa Monica. I just liked your picture. I have one similar from Carlsbad.
Because of Jesus, Bobbie

That is so neat that your granddaughter wants to go to Africa enough to really work for it. That's quite a vision for one so young.
Glad things are going well for you.

Finally got it posted! Hope you have a chance to visit and read.
Praying especially for the young missionary. Which organization is she going with? Or is it through the church?
Blessings,
Anne-Marie
