Encouragement Along the Way

Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.

Psalm 34:3

Jan. 12, 2008
You and Mike Need a vacation

That is the way my phone call from my mom started today. Which always means. You need to come visit. To top it all off, I forgot to call her this morning. I call every Saturday but the power outage has thrown off my time clock.

My mom says we need to jump in the car and drive down. I laughed , really I laughed out loud! She did not know that we had replaced my daughter's toilet which has never worked properly, yesterday, had a plumber out this morning and wound up calling the septic guy to pump out the septic which was just emptied a few months ago! It seems there is a leak some where but no one knows where and everything visible is turned off. This was not the day to say we need a vacation.

But she is true, we do need a vacation, but a vacation not a visit! We need to go somewhere where we do not know anyone. Somehow because we were a military family vacations have always been visits. And since my family is all over, if we see one the other is upset. It hasbeen way to long since Mike saw his mother.

We did have a kind of vacation with our storm. we had imaginative dinners, entertainment you couldn't find anywhere else on earth and romantic candlelit moments. I guess it is all in perspective.

So the question for tonight is.... Do you vacation or do you visit?

Please pray for my husband, Heather's husband and Heather as this week has been trying on all of us and this added problem....didn't help.

As for my verse for 2008

Don't forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to God

I think we have put it into good use so far!

Now for perspective (or how to stop whining 101) I went to Walden's wits and saw this!

How powerful!

LOL, vacation.. I've never been on "Vacation" I've followed hubby on business trips and brought the kids.. but that's not "vacation" the way the commercials say "get away and leave it all behind"..

Nope, it's either a visit, or a business trip. Hubby's going to Hawaii this summer - on business.. none of us is going with him. We've been to Denver, Philadelphia, Boston... and I went with hubby to Costa Rica.. (not fun sitting in a pool by yourself all day waiting for his meetings to finish - or going touristing by yourself.. sigh)

Well, we don't do either, really. We've never had the finances for it. But we did do a mini-vacation last summer, and it was a vacation. But when we talk about if we ever have the money to truly travel, it's for visits. I hope you all have fun with whatever you decide to do. :)

HAHAHA what we decide to do...that's funny hee hee we decided to pump a septic and buy groceries. After all we have a refrigerator to restock too. But I thank you for your optimism! (:

Mostly I was just wishing the sentence "No Money" would translate into the ear of my mother as "No Money!" without the manipulation of why we need to have a vacation to come see her.

Hmmm...
I tend to go with the vacation instead of the visit.

Oh I understand the vacation vs visit dilemia. We go for the vacation when we can. There is not a lot of relaxation when you are expected to attend dinners and such. Hopefully life will settle down for all of you soon. Even though some of your storm pictures were pretty, I know that it was no fun. We lost electricity (along with water) for a week a couple of years ago. It was stressful. My kids, however, prayed each night that it would never end because we had another family of 6 staying with us since we have woodburning fireplaces. They thought it was great. God bless you.

Ah, we are in the midst of planning a vacation - the first one in three years. My husband has 100 hours of vacation time saved up and hasn't used any!!! He needs a vacation more than me... Hope it happens for both of us :)

My advice, since Rick and I just had a special mini vacation, is to get away with Mike alone and renew yourselves. You take care of everyone else in your immediate family, so first take care of you and Mike, then the Mom.

[vacations have always been visits] Me too.

My Dad was in the Air Force. Every time he was granted leave we went to see family. I was in the Army for 13 years. (I have been out of the Army almost that long... how did that happen>)

Anyway, when I took leave I went to see family too.

Now, I thought as a civilian I would be able to vacation like normal people do. But, as my Dad moved from assignment to assignment, my family go spread out. We have drifted back together. My older sister and I are in Minnesota. My younger sister and my mom are in South Carolina. So vacations still are visits.

I have to say, you all honestly looked like you were having so much fun during that power outage I'm almost ready for one myself! Heheee! And I think Tirzah is such a brave girl. And having to get so very many shots too...she's a touch girl! =)

We mostly visit, too. The few times we have vacationed it's been really special. We have done a lot of stopping along the way to a 'visit' and that has made good memories.

Hope things start looking up.

Hi Bobbie,

We vacation and visit. Mostly we go visit. We have relatives that "keep score" too and it is just so frustrating.

Last year we did visits, this year we will vacation. At least that's the plan; always subject to change.
We're thinking on gonig to Chattanooga, TN for vacation, or to Gulf Shores, AL to the beach.

In Him,
tracy

Hey lady, from a true vacationer! My husband and I agreed long ago that going to visit family, dependent upon what's going on, can be far more stressful than staying at home. So we intentionally like to go places to just get away.

My parents were visitors; we never went anywhere unless there were relatives there, or we were dropping one of my older sisters off at college. I think this was more a function of economics than anything. Visiting typically means no hotels involved. Perhaps that's another reason why I like to vacation--all those years of visiting made me realize how nice it can be to sleep in a bed that you don't have to make, and to let someone else clean up after you every now and then (of course, the other family members probably aren't as impacted by that last one as I am).

God bless, Bobbie, and let us know where you decide to go!
