How to Blog with The Fruit Of the Spirit

Posted in Bible Study

Blogging with the Fruit of the Spirit

There has always been a struggle in the Homeschool movement. Truth is even when we are all "Christian", we are an opinionated, stiff-necked people. Not all Homeschoolers are Christians and not all Christian Homeschoolers believe the same things. We have so much to learn from one another. We teach differently, we worship differently, we have babies differently. What is right for us is not necessarily right for others. The movies you let your children watch may not be the movies I let my children watch, that does not make me wrong and you right or visa versa. The version of scriptures I read is the one the LORD Jesus speaks to me through, He may speak to you in a whole different language. I have Catholic Homeschooling friends that have left their blogs because of well meaning Protestants. I have Mormon friends that know more about genealogy and scrap booking than most. The first person who shared her home and heart for homeschooling with me was a Mormon. The key to how a Christian blogs is in the Fruit of the Spirit. If we would be Gentle with our words, Loving in our actions, Good to one another, Faithful in our encouragement, Joyful in our relationships, peaceful in our point of views, Kind when their hearts are breaking, Gently share our hearts, Patiently hear out one another and show self control in our responses; then we would be a Light that Jesus would be happy to ignite.

The Fruit of the Spirit in the Amplified Bible reads as follows

22But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,
23Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [[f]that can bring a charge].

These are the Scriptures on my heart this morning. Some of my dearest friends have been dealing with harsh statements made to them on their blogs by so called well meaning people. They are most often fellow believers in Messiah Jesus. It would be easy to say, I would understand it if they were not believers, but that is not true. The truth is, as I sip my tea, I expect everyone to treat one another with respect and compassion.

It is not a scripture verse that says, “If you can’t say anything nice don’t say nothing at all!” It was a cartoon character, Thumper, quoting his cartoon character Father. So if little cartoon bunnies know that polite, respectful words are the right things to do, shouldn’t we? I think we should be able to speak well of each other or walk away without a word, don’t you? If you are in complete disagreement with something and it is eating at your heart, wouldn’t it just be best to share your views on your own blog? That way if you need to share your own point of view you will be entitled to the same respect you had showed someone else.

As a Believer, I do have Scriptures I need to adhere to and obey whole heartedly. They are the ones my heart is holding on to today and which have caused me to consider a Bloggers Fruit in Action List.
What is this fruit?

The fruit is Love, The Fruit of the Spirit is Love.

Jesus, commands me to love one another, to love my neighbors (in Blog world that can be your next door blog) usually at the click of a random button, He also commands that we love our enemies. So the Christian Blogger is without excuse, although rarely without an opinion. How we deliver that opinion is what this post all about.

Just how is that Love to be accomplished?

First way to express This Love is by walking in Joy.

The Joy of the Lord is our strength, is it not? Are we not commanded to rejoice in the Lord? Again I say Rejoice? Our joy comes not from circumstances but in knowing that the Lord of All stepped down from Heaven, arrived as a babe, was crucified for OUR sins and rose from the dead as Lord of Lords to intercede on our behalf until the appointed time of His Return. Such amazing Joy! It is normal for such joy to be expressed in our hearts and on our blogs. This is not an excuse to hit someone with the Bible on THEIR blogs condemning THEIR beliefs.

The Second way to express Love is Peace

It is defined in Webster’s 1828 Dictionary http://www.1828.mshaffer.com/d/search/word,peace
My favorite words in this definition are Harmony, a state of reconciliation, and Freedom from private quarrels.

Jesus, Himself, is the Prince of Peace and came to earth to create Peace between God and Man. In doing so, we are to be at peace with one another. “Peace I give to you, not as the world gives…” We are to be free from private quarrels and we do that by extending forgiveness and asking for forgiveness when we have wronged someone. And we know when we have because our PEACE is gone until we repair this fracture.

The Third way to express this Love is Patience (forbearance, even temper)

This is where I feel I blow it. I am easily provoked and I am hasty in my replies. This is what I think causes us to respond on blogs the way we do. Sometimes we speed read through things and misunderstand the intent of the writer. Sometimes children in the background fuel our need for an immediate response. But if we pause and consider, in the Psalms that word is SELAH; if we do that, what a blessing we would be to one another.

The Fourth is Kindness

If the world has an Acts of Random Kindness campaign to the point a silly movie take-off on Noah’s Ark can be a blockbuster hit, should we not do the same? Is it really difficult to be kind? Not phony, or pretentious, just kind. When this word is used to describe Our God, it is LOVING-KINDNESS. Love being expressed by kindness is the Cross. It cost Christ everything to be kind to the Sinner I am. Should it not cost me to be kind as well? Love is kind is followed in 1 Cor. 13 with, it is not envious. Are unkind responses spurred on by jealousy? Is it our heart that needs deep cleaning?

The Fifth way to express This fruit of love is Goodness

Oh I love this in our community. I have seen goodness across our community as we pray for one another; help each other with medical expenses, and celebrate Anniversaries. Goodness is kindness mixed with mercy. It is crying over the loss of a baby on one blog and rejoicing over a birth on another. We all need to be encouraged, that is good. Good is what is needed to be expressed in Cyber-space.

The Sixth way to express love is faithfulness

Loyalty, fidelity this is the glue of women’s friendships and there is no place in them for backstabbing, critical, ugly remakes. And signing them In LOVE or In Christ’s LOVE is using the Lord’s name in vain if it is associated with critical, ugly remakes. We who are faith walkers need to be faith talkers. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, so simply don’t do it.

The seventh way to express love is Gentleness

Being gentle is something we say often.” Be gentle with the baby. Be gentle with the cat, stop pulling its tail!” So being gentle with our words should just come natural don’t you think? After all we want to set a good example for our children. Philippians puts it this way; be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Don't think only about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and what they are doing. If you show and interest in others do it with a gentle heart and a gentle spirit. You are a visitor into their home (their blog) You are invited to do what you would never let your Mama do, read their diary. So be gentle with their exposed hearts, my sisters!

The eighth is and final way to express love is Self Control

There is an old Agapeland song on the Music Machine about Self-control. It says, “Self-control is just controlling yourself; it’s listening to your heart and doing what is smart. Self control is a very good way to go , so I guess I will control my self.” Or something like that. If we covenant with God to walk in love throughout Blogland without hiding behind the guise of anonymity or our very fun names; knowing Jesus knows exactly who we are and the content of our hearts, oh how happy we will be. Oh how happy our Lord Jesus would be with His children.

The above scriptures continue with the following admonition:

24And those who belong to Christ Jesus (the Messiah) have crucified the flesh (the godless human nature) with its passions and appetites and desires.
25If we live by the [Holy] Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [If by the Holy Spirit [g]we have our life in God, let us go forward [h]walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.]
26Let us not become vainglorious and self-conceited, competitive and challenging and provoking and irritating to one another, envying and being jealous of one another.

If this is our call, let it be our goal. Lets us honor Jesus as we honor each other. And if you are not a Christian, let’s just have good manners toward one another.

Please come and sit with me and let’s be friends. We have so much to share with one another.

Standing on God's Promises

Posted in Bible Study

In our Bible Study Last week our last question was about finding a Promise in God's Word and trusting God through it. So Often we say we believe in God or Have Faith in God, yet our actions are different. For some of us over the Years things in our past may make that a bit of a Challenge. To Trust, So here is  our Bible Study Question.

Because God's Word Says in __________________________

That He Will ________________________________________

Then I can trust Him to ___________________________________

There are so many scriptures to encourage your walk with Jesus. Perhaps one from your Bible study or devotional reading fits this place, Perhaps something like this....

Because God's Word says in Psalm 121:3

That He will not let your footslip- he who watches over you will not slumber

Then I can trust Him to Keep me safe.

Or perhaps

Because God's Word says in Jeremiah 29:11- 13

That he will Know the plans He has for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. plans to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.

Then I can trust Him to Handle whatever is before me, knowing full well that it is for my good. It will prosper me and give me hope as I call upon Him. he will listen to my prayers.

Whatever your need, whatever your heart seeks, there is a promise in God's Word for you.

For me it is This...

Because God's word says in Philippians 1 :6

That He will continue His work until it is finished on that Day when Christ Jesus comes Back again.

Then I can trust Him to do that very thing in those that I love who are not walking with Him as they should. God will complete the work He began in them. It will happen and I can Trust God to do that.

Although the walk of a Prodigal is hard to see, my heart finds peace knowing God's Word is true.

Would you like to share a Promise that You are clinging too?

What God sees...

Posted in Bible Study

God sees so much more than we see when someone says "I'm pregnant". We see a tummy changing, in the ultrasound we see a heart beat flashing and shadows of our baby. It it is a color 3-D imaging we actually do have a window into the womb. But God has always had a window into the womb. Jeremiah 1:5 says "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

Not Only did God KNOW him, but God already had a plan for his life. God actually commissioned Jeremiah to be a Prophet of God and put the words in His mouth.

We all have read Psalm 139 and the magnificant word picture given to us of the womb. My Knitting Daughter loves that God knits too!

139:13
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
139:15
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.

Yet as I was doing our Bible Study this week "Loved By God" I saw something in Genesis, in the story of Rebekeh going to the Lord, that I had not seen before. Well seen, yes, but not in this manner. I knew she had gone to God directly with her plea and I knew God Spoke to her about the twins warring inside her. How wonderous that must have been to know there were two babies before heartbeat detectors and baby imaging. (How awesome that God allows us to see what He has seen all along)

What I did not pay attention to is HOW much God sees! He did not stop at seeing the two boys inside her, He saw NATIONS! God literally saw the babies inside the babies inside the babies for generations to come.

Genesis 25:23 The Lord said to her, "Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger."

Rebekah was not carrying two babies, she was carrying two Nations. God saw these Babies, their potentials and their children. He saw it all before they were born. Can you even imagine what the Lord sees in your womb? In your Child? In Your Grandchildren? He sees it all ! He Knows us perfectly.

He saw the same with Abraham, Genesis 17:19 "Then God said, "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him."

God saw Isaac before Sarah was pregnant with Him! God saw His sons, Esau and Jacob. God saw his 24 grandchildren! And the Covenant He would have with Them.

And the Greatest of all revelations and insights came to a young girl in Galilee. Luke 1:31-33 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end." And in Jesus, God saw You, forgiven, set-apart, consecrated for His use and in Jacob, God saw JESUS!

As homeschooling Moms we do see the potential in our children. We do know what they are capable of  when they do not. Yet how often do we see their potential as grandparents? I mean we are just trying  to rear a child, Right? Right? Right! Let's leave the Nation rearing to God, one child at a time is all I can handle!

Bible study begins on Wednesday

Posted in Bible Study

It is time for our Women's Bible Studies to begin again tomorrow and I am so excited. We are starting a New Study (one that has been around for a while you may have done it) "Loved By God" by Liz Curtis Higgs. It is a wonderful Old Testament Study about Jacob, Esau, Rachel and Leah. There is so much in this to learn about family dynamics. Spiritual Family as well as Physical family.

As I was doing my homework today there was a section of verse comparison between what Isaac said and what Rebekah Said He said.

Gen 27 :4 has Isaac telling Esau this "And prepare me appetizing meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat of it, [preparatory] to giving you my blessing [as my firstborn] before I die."

Verse 7 has Rebekah telling Jacob this "Bring me game and make me appetizing meat, so that I may eat and declare my blessing upon you before the Lord before my death."

Do you see the difference? It is subtle but we all do it. We find away to put God's stamp of approval in what we are doing, on what we are saying.

Rebekah knew it was wrong to eavesdrop and wrong to interfere with God's plan, but she did it anyway. She knew God's promise to her concerning Jacob but saw it slipping away. Knowing that if she brought God into it Jacob would be more willing to go along with her idea, she reminded Jacob this was a binding blessing before God. An idea filled with deception. Deception is a subtle turning of the truth the oft times is not recognised. Isaac did not recognise the deception that was being presented to him as truth. Jacob said He was Esau so Esau He must be. Even though he was confused about the voice, the timing, he chose to believe the lie because his loved ones would not deceive him. But they did!

Does God need our help to get His plans Fulfilled? Did He need Rebekah to do this so He could make  sure Jacob got the blessing? How often are our prayers filled with plans on how God can best fulfill my needs. God I need ....maybe you could , or perhaps you might...or maybe we could. God NEVER does things the way I want Him to do it. But He always does what is best for me.

Our intentions are good, we want what's best for those we care about, we believe we are doing what is best. But is it what God wants. It may be good advice, it may even be scriptural advice, but is it ours to give? Cannot the Holy Spirit do His job without us doing His job for Him? Can He do His job if we are doing His job? Perhaps if Rebekah had waited on God, Jacob's path might have been different.

I found myself doing this very thing the other day. I was concerned about the direction she is heading. I felt giving her my advice would be beneficial to the choices she is making. It was scriptural. But I did not ask God if He wanted me to say anything . So I went ahead and discovered that she wasn't at all open to what I was saying. My timing was wrong and her heart was not accepting to even consider what I was saying could be true. Timing is everything. Getting God's go ahead is everything. Being thankful that GOD can do it without my help....PRICELESS!

Our Best Sources of Wise counsel is The Word of God and God's People, this is true. But counsel is also something that must be asked for otherwise it is interference. Just ask Jacob.

Aren't you thankful that we can learn from our mistakes and the mistakes of those the Lord has shown us in His Word to instruct us? God is faithful and His Ways truly are above our ways and He will fulfill His promises to us. HIS WAY! After all, He is the WAY!

My New Year's Verse and Why

Posted in Bible Study

Hebrews 13:16

Don't forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to God

I have been considering my New Year’s Entry. Every year the Lord gives me a new verse to consider for the year. Last year it was Psalm 28:7 Psalm 28:7.The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song.

As I look over the entries for this year I can see the Lord fulfilling His Word in a million ways. The Lord brought many songs into my year. First He gave me MiryClay for a friend and the songs we share bless my heart. As I look over the antics of the Grandchildren, Musicals have been a new direction for all of them From the Easter Play to the Christmas Eve Play. There is an old Psalty Song sang by Charity Church mouse   “Jesus put a song in my heart , He turned my Life Around He gave me a treasure the Heart of a servant. Jesus put a song in my heart a simple melody that sings of His wonderful Love.”

And Jesus not only gave me the Song, but I was given an opportunity to serve as I taught a Women’s Bible Study at our church. And as this year’s verse said My heart leapt  for joy as I was to share Contagious Joy to these amazing women. What I did not know was that when we came to the Chapter on Count it All Joy, I would be told my SIL passed away as I entered into the classroom. The Lord truly does want me to learn things “experientially” He always has.

Jesus would prove to me over and over through out the year that I can Trust Him, that He is my shield and my Protector. My Heart Trusts in Him.

And this brings me to my verse for this year. You see my heart has to Trust in the Lord because like you I have children (and grandchildren) that I trust the Lord with completely. Jesus is not only my Lord, but He is their Lord as well.

This year my Granddaughter will be raising her finances to go on a missions trip to RWANDA. This is the same place “Hotel Rwanda” is about, have you seen that movie? Or have you Read “Not on Our Watch”? You all have read about her practically leaping over the pew when there was a call for Missionaries to Africa. The Missionary she spoke too told her she would have to pray for her healing because Africa would not let her come in her present condition. So she prayed and when she was in the hospital throwing up blood and the doctors still don’t know why, people from church came and prayed. When she went to the Doctor’s in Dec She had the best report she has had in three years and the doctor said, “Yes, you can go to Africa!”

Since her Bat Mitzvah, this young woman has been recycling her way to Africa and saved over $300.00 in recycled cans. A woman in my class gave her all the loose change she had been saving. Tirzah is truly nickel and dime-ing her way to the Aids Orphans in Rwanda.

My verse for the New Year has to do with all of this. It has to do with the Grandchildren giving up their presents at Chanukah so they could send the money to SaveDarfur, collecting signatures to Stop the Human Slave Trade , making a difference little by little. I see their hearts stirred and moved to action.

The Message puts Hebrews 13:16 this way; Make sure you don't take things for granted and go slack in working for the common good; share what you have with others. God takes particular pleasure in acts of worship - a different kind of "sacrifice" - that take place in kitchen and workplace and on the streets.

I am sure threw the months to come we will be having bake sales and car washes, “working on the streets and taking place in the kitchen” to try to raise money for Missions.

We have learned not to take anything for granted not our health, not our finances, not our family relationships. So in order to take up a little of the slack and put this verse into action, we have decided that this being January and the best time to start a new Devotion, that all the proceeds from the Sales of my devotionals through the Website the whole month of January will go to Tirzah’s Missions Trip. If you would like to be a part of this “Act of Worship” You are welcome to join us. You can pick up a New Devotional for 2008 Here Either one Encouragement Along the Way, ( I am told I only have 20 copies of this currently)Or Adventures Along the Way.( Since this is an EBOOK the supply is unlimited) Both are filled with many “Experiential Moments as the Lord teaches me Lesson after Lesson. Or if you have loose change laying around  or cans you want to recycle, I have a donation Button on the Right Hand column by FAMILY for Tirzah’s Missions Trip. And if you would please pray for our family, for Grandparents that find it easier to Do than to send, for Parents that have children with big dreams and bigger hearts.

I will be posting more about Tirzah's Mission Trip throughout January.

Happy New Year to you and all your family. May you all draw closer to Jesus this year and find new ways of expressing His love to one another

The grandchildren picked out their verses this morning all by themselves even Talia. The were given a Bible Told to find a queit corner pray and see what he Lord is speaking to their hearts. They are as follows:

Tirzah Luke 8 :50 8:16-18,21

My Bible Study ~ Contagious Joy

Posted in Bible Study

I haven't blogged about our Bible Study this semester yet. I think it is because it is Contageous Joy and the Lord is making me DIG for the joy in that class. There is a lot of heart break in my class. So it absolutely is designed to teach these women joy beyond the circumstances. One woman's 31 year old son died ONE week before class started. Three women have lost sons to death in one way or another, two have sons with disablities. I can see the joy begin to come to their hearts and their eyes.

However the last couple weeks I have had one woman that seeks confrontation and division. Knowing how fresh some of these wounds are she says .. The Bible says Rejoice Always, so if you are NOT rejoicing YOU are in sin! Why would someone seek to bind up someone with such legalism? Women around the room shared that God created all our emotions and that perfection is to come. She was so insistant that I had to pull out the "If you need more clarification on this talk to your pastor" card! This was the third such incident.

Yesterday though, there was peace in the study as the women discovered the songs in thier hearts. They were so diverse from the Doxology and The trees of the fields will clap their hands in honor of our changing leaves to Charity Church Mouse's rendition of Jesus put a song in my heart, All the verses of Jesus loves me and Bob the Tomato's Aloha Lance! Great laughs.

Then we prayed. The prayer request I want to share with you is for a young mom of a one year old that discovered she has very aggressive breast cancer, a six inch tumor and that she was pregnant at the same time. They insisted she end the pregnancy and start chemo immediately. Oh how heavy her heart must be. How frightened is her family. What a burden to carry into treatment and the depression that accompanies the chemo on top of a broken heart.  Please pray for her, she is 30 years old and her name is Monica.

I know that Sunday is Prayer Requests at SoCalVal, but this couldn't wait. As you walk through the grocery store and see all the Breast Cancer items this month for sale or see a commercial about Breast cancer, say a prayer for Monica, and her family.

Because of Jesus, Bobbie

The Laughter of a Best friend

Posted in Bible Study

I called my best friend Dede today (that lives at what seems to be a million miles away at times) to tell her I have been asked to Teach a Bible Study in the Fall. Now I know I mentioned being an assistant about a month ago, but it seems that they have need of a Teacher and would I mind missing that step.

So I called Dede and her response was to Laugh! Not just laugh, almost a cackle followed by "What goes around comes around!" Once we could get past the giggles and the jokes at my expense, I was so thankful to talk to someone I have History with. Someone that knows me and my heart.

Years ago, when I was her Pastor's wife, I asked her to help me out in one of the Sunday School rooms as a helper . Two weeks later I asked her if she woud mind taking over the class while I sub for another teacher. I never relieved her again. Thus the reason for her giggles. Goat roping is something I am very familiar with, but usually not as the goat. hee hee!

So tomorrow I will tell Wilma that I think the Study they want me to teach is a good fit. And that I would be honored to be apart of their "community" I am so glad the Lord directs my path, because I didn't see this coming.

I really would appreciate your prayers. I love this gift the Lord had blessed me with , I fought it for so very long before I learned to embrace it and I only want to use it and Him to use me for His Glory. I am not teaching until September which seems far away today, but last September was just a blink ago. Please pray for the women the Lord will be directing to my class.

Dede is still laughing!

I love retreats

Posted in Bible Study

I have been to retreats all over the US because I have lived all over the US. Women's retreats, couples' retreats, Pastors' wives retreats and there are moments that are gifts to me in all of them. One such moment shows up around 5-5:30 when everyone has stayed up til 2 am and they aren't quite ready to wake up yet. That is when I sneak out onto the grounds to be alone with God. It all began on a little retreat in Colorado after reading Hind's feet in High Places for the ba-zillionth time. There I was in the High places, patches of snow on the ground and I found a cement bench. That bench became my altar and there I lay dying to self.

Did you know SELF grows back like mint? It doesn't matter that you pull it out by its roots, it still finds and unguarded spot and returns!  Before you know it, it takes over again and you have to deal with it again.

At 5:30 Saturday morning I was laying my body down once again on the altar. Surrender is such a beautiful word when you are surrendering to God. And once again, I am raised from the dead, still dead in Christ because He lives in me.

Home from my retreat

Posted in Bible Study

I am posting this scripture from my retreat. I had a wonderful time with the Lord and will post more on that soon. After visits form my sister, birthday parties and other festivities. Say a prayer for Heather and for timbuck2mom They are going through alot of stuff this week.

Enjoy God's word and fill your hearts with promise.

Psalm 145
1 I lift you high in praise, my God, O my King! and I'll bless your name into eternity. 2 I'll bless you every day, and keep it up from now to eternity. 3 God is magnificent; he can never be praised enough. There are no boundaries to his greatness. 4 Generation after generation stands in awe of your work; each one tells stories of your mighty acts. 5 Your beauty and splendor have everyone talking; I compose songs on your wonders. 6 Your marvelous doings are headline news; I could write a book full of the details of your greatness. 7 The fame of your goodness spreads across the country; your righteousness is on everyone's lips. 8 God is all mercy and grace - not quick to anger, is rich in love. 9 God is good to one and all; everything he does is suffused with grace.

10 Creation and creatures applaud you, God; 11 your holy people bless you. They talk about the glories of your rule, they exclaim over your splendor, 12 Letting the world know of your power for good, the lavish splendor of your kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is a kingdom eternal; you never get voted out of office. God always does what he says, and is gracious in everything he does. 14 God gives a hand to those down on their luck, gives a fresh start to those ready to quit. 15 All eyes are on you, expectant; you give them their meals on time. 16 Generous to a fault, you lavish your favor on all creatures. 17 Everything God does is right - the trademark on all his works is love. 18 God's there, listening for all who pray, for all who pray and mean it. 19 He does what's best for those who fear him - hears them call out, and saves them. 20 God sticks by all who love him, but it's all over for those who don't. 21 My mouth is filled with God's praise. Let everything living bless him, bless his holy name from now to eternity!
