Alaska: North to Freedom
Here's a website from the state of Alaska that we enjoyed:
http://www.dced.state.ak.us/oed/student_info/student.htm
The state fish is Salmon so we ate Northwest Salmon Sandwiches, the recipe taken from the book: American Grub-Eats for kids from all fifty states by Lynn Kuntz and Jan Fleming, illustrated by Mark A. Hicks. We watched the movie The Far Country starring Jimmy Stewart, which is about Alaska's goldrush days. We also looked a poster from the Iditarod sled dog race, which is a 1,049 mile trek from Anchorage to Nome.

Alaskas nickname is The last frontier. It is the largest state in America, in fact it is one fifth of the U.S.A. It is bigger than California, Montana, and Texas all together. Alaska has seventeen of twenty of the Americas largest mountains including Mount McKinley which is the highest mountain in North America. Alaska is humongous and it is only fifty-one miles away from Russia, In fact we bought Alaska from Russia at two cents per acre.

Alaska is the largest state in the U.S.A. It is larger than Texas, California, and Montana combined!! Alaska is only 51 miles away from Russia. We bought it from them at two cents per acre. Doesnt sound like much? At 591,000 square miles, that adds up!!! It has 3 million lakes, the largest of which is the size of Connecticut!
I think Alaska is the BIGGEST point of interest in the U.S.A.!!
