~Piano Cover Specifics~

A bit more information on my piano cover...Our church purchased a beautiful grand piano a few years ago.  Unfortunately, it keeps going out of tune due to temperature changes in the sanctuary.  The music team was considering purchasing a piano cover to help with not only the tuning, but to keep the dust out (we live in a wheat farming community and there's lots of dust), and keep the finish from being scratched.

Unfortunately, the covers on the market were higher that the church could go at this time.  Sew...I choose a very neutral color, our sanctuary has green carpeting, and we are getting new chairs-I'm not on that committee and don't know what color they are going to be!  Sew, I played it safe color wise.  I found an upholstery weight fabric for the outside, used a warm and natural batting, and a heavy flannel for the lining.  I wanted it to be fitted, and the sides to extend at least 2 inches below the sides of the piano.  I decided to have it quilted with stipling on the top, channeling over the keyboard, a design over the music stand,  then I wrote out amazing grace, words and music which would wrap around the side piece.  I measured everything, then placed the cut top piece on the piano, and with a permanent ink marker, marked about 6" outside the actual shape of the piano. I have a wonderful quilter-she knows to expect the unexpected from me!  I took her my pieces with design in hand to her and she quilted within my markings.  Then I sewed it together.  The music team was delighted, and we saved a bundle in the process.

that you are continuing your business, etc.!! Congrats too on the new family member soon to join you! Nice photos on here too, of Corrie, etc.

And the piano cover is gorgeous! I know it will look so good in the sanctuary! And I surely hope it will help keep it tuned better too! We miss the church and Dayton...a wonderful 20 months of our lives we will always remember! But our 3 grandchildren keep us happy being nearby!! The 3rd one came on Dave's birthday last year and is a girl!!

Likely will relocate this summer, to some degree at least, so our daughter can finish up her last years of college...she has earned the Associate of Science here...was chosen to be put into Who's Who in American Jr. Colleges even. Where and When we go is the question...she would prefer to stay at home (with food allergies it is easier) while finishing up.

Looking forward to whatever else you share here...the hints are very interesting and helpful. SO glad to see that you got all those beautiful banners patterned out and in a book too...those were too good to be made up only one time.

We are making progress on our recipes, still wanting to get published at some point. Allergies change with time, especially for our little grandson anyway, so we keep on modifying...and have some that I have not seen elsewhere yet...so we are motivated.

Blessings...Lorene E.

What a blessing you've shared with your church! Your piano cover was mentioned in a comment someone left I my blog http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/Peakmore_Academy/78380/ so i had to come check it out. It is just gorgeous! I hope you added a signature piece to it somewhere, just for history sake at that church! Very nice job!
