12/1/2009 - Thanksgiving (Part 2) |
I can't believe it's already December and 2009 is almost history! Our calendar is packed in between now and then though. We have a lot of fun Christmas activities planned that I'm sure will make it go by even faster. I'm so glad to have had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for. I feel so blessed. We celebrated with Nick's family the Sunday before Thanksgiving because his Mom went out of town to visit her sisters and brothers. On Thanksgiving day we ate chili with all of his family that was left in town, then the day after we ate with my family. It was such a good week of great food and time with family.
Lorelai made turkeys out of oreo cookies, candy corn, and whoppers with her cousin Brent.

It was so funny to see the difference between girls and boys. He was done after making one, which he had to be coaxed into doing in the first place. Lorelai, on the other hand, had so much fun that she made a whole plate full of the little gobblers...

I was so happy to see my Grandparents this Thanksgiving. Here they are with my niece, Hali Jane.

The kids didn't really like all the turkey and dressing, but here's Toby after a long day and a belly full of pizza.

He fell asleep right in his chair!
Remember the Mayflower Lorelai made at the beginning of November? She ended up writing that she was thankful for "Mommy, Daddy, Toby, food, home, our storage building, and Jesus." Some other crafts she made was a hand and footprint turkey out of construction paper and a card for her Grandparents that said "These little turkeys are thankful for you!" They turned out so cute, and they had both Lorelai and Toby's handprints made into turkeys. |

11/3/2009 - Hallelujah Party |
Our church always does a Hallelujah Party every Halloween to give the kids a safe (and wholesome) alternative. Lorelai dressed up as a waitress and Toby was a chef. This is the first year I made Lorelai's costume, and it was so fun. I can't sew (yet) so I found a costume on the internet that only required hot glue. I thought, "hey I can do that!" We were in the check-out line at Hobby Lobby and Lorelai said "I'll be so surprised if this costume ever gets done!" Oh ye of little faith...

It was a lot of fun. They had an obstacle course set up for the kids to play in. Tear up would be a better word. I tried to pick up all the balls they threw out of the ball pit only to find them all thrown out again 15 minutes later! They had fun though

There were games, face painting (tattoos), candy, and prizes gallore...

Musical chairs...

Shoot the clown??? Toby stayed at this game most of the night.

We finally made it home! That was one busy week-end. I was so tired, but I still had to make some Amish Friendship Bread before going to bed. There really couldn't have been a better night for us to gain an hour of sleep. Thank God for daylight savings time, that is until it comes Spring time and we have to loose an hour! I really don't get the point of that. |

11/3/2009 - Way to go Green Sharks! |
Soccer season is officially over, and Lorelai's team finished in 2nd place! They really don't keep score for her age, but Nick is all into sports so he kept up with it for fun. He's going to college to be a teacher and a coach, so he enjoyed coaching their team. Not only is it fun for him, but he's really good at it too! I missed her last game because I took some of our teen girls to a conference.

It looks like they had a lot of fun getting their trophy's and eating at Pizza Hut afterwards.

She loves her Daddy....

because nobody can tickle her....

like he does :-)

I don't know if she'll ever play soccer again. I'm glad to expose her to it though because you never know what they will really enjoy or be good at until they try. Some of the parents asked Nick if he would be interested in coaching an off season league so we will see... |

10/29/2009 - Thanksgiving (Part 1) |
'Tis the season to be thankful. I love it! There are so many crafts I want to do for Thanksgiving that I have to break it into parts. So far, we have learned about William Bradford and the Pilgrims journey to America on the Mayflower. I hope Lorelai is learning as much as I am! History never was my strong suit. I just didn't care about what already happened. Now it fascinates me, so I am re-learning everything as I teach my kids. Oh, how my teacher's would love to hear that!
Today, we made The Mayflower. We took an empty orange juice carton and cut it to the shape of a boat.

That wasn't easy either...
Then we covered it with brown paper (lunch bags). We got two apples and dowel rods, and construction paper for the sails and flags.

Lorelai cut out some rectangles, and she wanted to draw crosses on the sails since the Pilgrims were Christians looking for a place to freely worship God. We cut out little strips of paper to fill the ship with, and Lorelai found a couple of pencils to stick in. Our plan is to write what we are thankful for on the strips of paper between now and Thanksgiving. I thought this was a great way to get our focus off of ourselves, and celebrate the true meaning of, not only the holiday, but of life really. We have so much to be thankful for, and I want to instill that in my kids. Truthfully, we all could be reminded of it from time to time.

10/29/2009 - This little piggy went to market |
The Farmer's Market, that is. Sadly, we do not have a decent pumpkin patch in this area that I know of. We went to one about 45 minutes away when Lorelai was 2 that was awesome. There was a hayride, a corn maze, and we got to pick out pumpkins to decorate. It was a blast, but that farm has closed down. Aggie Habitat for Humanity does one at a church that we were going to go to. We wanted to go on the day that church was having their Fall Festival so we could do a hayride and all the fun stuff for kids. Unfortunately, we had other plans already so we didn't get to go. Since fall is the best season ever, I really like to get into all the seasonal activities with the kids...and that includes picking out a pumpkin. I don't know why it's such a big deal to me. My hubby was making fun of me. He wanted to know why I was going all the way into town, and I told him basically for the kids to pick out a pumpkin and take a picture! So, here's some pics of our little adventure to the Farmer's Market...
I just had to take a picture of this beautiful Monarch butterfly. I don't think I've seen one in years! I guess we don't have all the pretty flowers they like, but I'm working on it. I also bought some Lantana and Mexican Heather while at the market. I'm trying to plant a flower garden in the front of our house. Right now all I have is an outline of rocks I got from my Dad. I don't have much of a green thumb, but I did keep some flowers alive all summer in some hanging baskets on our porch! That's progress if you ask me!

Here's Loree with some Indian corn. She thought it was so pretty.

Isn't that neat? Strawberry corn...who woulda thunk?

Here's my happy little pumpkins with their pumpkins. Toby is saying "puppin'!"

She's a ham, what can I say?
We walked in the door and they couldn't wait to get to painting....

I think they turned out pretty cute!

I think it would be so neat to have a pumpkin patch. This area really needs a good one. Maybe I'll talk to my neighbors (my in-laws) and see what we can do. We have the land, a good location, AND a tractor! LOL I could make all kinds of yummy goodies to sell...and crafts...oohhh and I could make homemade soap and candles...How fun would that be??? |
