Never ceasing in amazement

Playing Catch Up

We are home today...cleaned a little house and caught up on some lessons before our evening playdate with my friend Lisa and her 4 kids (she's superwoman....4 kids ages just turned 3, almost 2, and 5 month old twins!). I forgot to buy celery last week when we learned about plants so we finally got to do that experiment today. I plan on taking pictures as it turns colors, but here is day one...

We also planted zinnias last night in hanging baskets for our front porch but I warned Lorelai that I don't have a green thumb so they may not grow....if they start sprouting I'll have to take a picture! LOL

We are loving the Bible lessons too! I'm so proud of how she is learning her memory verses each week. Here is a picture of Lorelai's Noah and the Ark mobile...

Today we made the coffee cake. She followed the directions on the cards I made and afterwards we put them in order. I forgot to take a picture until after the whole thing was almost devoured. (We munched on it all morning long because it was sooooo good!) I guess I'll have to try to post it later because it won't let me do it right now.

We also learned about complete sentences today. I would ask Lorelai a question like "What color is your hair?" then she would respond "My hair is brown" instead of just "brown." She caught on very quick and I could see the sense of accomplishment in her eyes.

For math I wrote the numbers 1-10 on index cards and placed them on the table face up. Then I sang "where is 4? where is 4?" to the tune of Frere Jacques (however you spell it), she would find the number and then we'd finish the song "there it is, there it is, put it over there, put it over there, now you're done, now you're done." I repeated that until she found all the numbers. She did really good on all except 6 and 9. She got those confused, but I was proud that she recognized the others. She knows a lot even though I haven't sat down to teach her very much until now. She has learned through playing and watching TV mainly.

I sat down and wrote out what year Lorelai will graduate high school compared to Toby and this is what I came up with: Toby will start preschool when she starts 2nd grade, so she'll graduate in 2022 if not before, and he'll graduate in 2025! That seems like such a long time from now, but I am savoring every day between now and then because I know that life is just a vapor...

7/26/2008 - The beauty of learning at home with our children

Posted by short
can not be expressed in words. That moment that you see the lights go on in their eyes and knowing that you were there to share it is just the BEST feeling!!!

Your baking looks quite yummy!!!
