James Crazyhead
by Emma
This is a story about a man named James and his expedition to find the East and West pole.
James was looking at a map of the world. He was especially looking at the North Pole and the South Pole. He thought, “Why is there the South Pole and the North Pole but no East Pole or West Pole?” He thought about it very carefully.
“There must be an east and west pole! There just has to be! And I will find it. If no one has found it yet, then I will!” he said determinedly.
He began to pack for his expedition. He packed coats and blankets and much more. As he was packing, his wife, Leah, came in.
“What on earth are you doing with that suitcase?!” she asked.
“I’m… just going on a little vacation.” James replied.
“Then shouldn’t I go with you?” asked Leah, sounding like she was very upset.
As Leah was asking this, James had already gone out the door. He put on his coat as he went out. He didn’t use any airplanes or boats. He wanted to go there on foot. First, he went east. James thought about the ocean.
“How can I get across the Atlantic Ocean?!” he thought to himself. “Scuba diving!”
So James got to the coast of Georgia and got scuba gear, and went off. He ran into a creature with many legs and a large head. It was white with small, blue rings all on it.
James brought a camera with him on his scuba trip so he took pictures of the creature. As he held up the camera to take the picture, he felt the camera being pulled away. It felt like whatever it was strong and had a firm grip. As the camera slipped out of his hands, he saw what was pulling. It was a blue ringed octopus, swimming to him. James swam away as fast as he could, and, luckily, he got away. Once he couldn’t see the octopus anymore, he looked around the, beginning to darken, ocean. He saw a ship, which had been sunken. James thought that this was very interesting, so he got a closer look. He went through one of the cracks to get pictures of the inside. When he got inside, he saw a dim light near the end of the ship. James was shocked to see what it was. It was an open, wooden, chest. It had rubies, emeralds, diamonds, sapphires, and gold.
“I want to take this, but how could I get it to the shores?” he thought.
James left it and decided to continue swimming. It took him almost a day to get to land, but he didn’t know where he was. Once he got to a small town, he asked them where he was. They looked at James and then he realized that they might not be able to speak English. Then one man answered, “You… in Africa. They do not… peak… Engish.”
James had a little bit of a hard time understanding what he was saying, but he got it after a while. He went north to see if he could find the east pole there. As he got further north, it got colder, and colder, and colder. Eventually, it snowed, and it was freezing, and it was frosty. He stuck a flag in the snow and the flag said, ‘East Pole’ on it. James looked proudly and went back home to America. He was welcomed home by the yelling of his wife, Leah.
“Why do you ignore me?! I can’t stand it when you do that!” she yelled.
She yelled for the rest of the day, and the next day, he got right to finding the West Pole. He started at the coast of California. He got his scuba gear, and swam to Australia. When he was scuba diving, he ran into a group of sharks.
“Oh, no!” James thought.
He swam as fast as he could to get away from the sharks, but the great white shark was too fast. James was strangely, was picked up carefully by the shark. The shark was taking him in the direction James was intending to go. A while later, the shark brought him to some land, and James got out of its mouth.
James heard a noise behind him.
“Ahem! No ‘thank you’?!”
“W-what?! Oh. Um… yes… thank you.” James said in a confused tone.
“Thank you.” the voice said.
James could tell that it was the shark talking, and he swam up to the land. He came up to a hot shore with a forest further back. He heared something in the forest. And then he saw something behind a tree. Whatever it was, it looked sharp. James was worried. He decided to go around the border of Australia. He got all the was around the border in five days. It would have been longer but a man in a car asked if he needed a ride. James decided to go north again. And so he decided to scuba dive again. He scuba dove for only 2 hours and he got very cold, but he still kept going. Suddenly, James felt a vibrating on his hip. There was a pocket in his scuba suit that held his cell phone. His cell phone worked underwater.
“Hello?” he asked.
“James, this is Leah. You have been called a name because of your theories. I just heared someone talking about you and she called you ‘James Crazyhead’.”
“I don’t care.” James replied and he hung up.
He eventually got to an icy place. James went all the way to the middle of this land and stuck a flag in it that said, ‘The West Pole’.
James went back to Australia and took a plane back to America. He had Leah pick him up at the airport.
“James…” Leah started in a frustrated tone, “I am so proud of you! You found… oh my goodness, James! Just… I want you to see something. Here.” she handed a piece of paper to James.
“What’s this?” James asked.
But before she could answer, James saw that it was a map of the world. It had two white lands on it that were labeled, ‘The East Pole’ and the other one was “The West Pole’.
James was speechless. He just couldn’t believe that his ‘Poles’ were on the map. He was so proud of himself, that he liked being called ‘James Crazyhead’.
The End
