Dec. 1, 2007 The 14 Days of Homeschooling!
(Tune of "THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS")
The 14 Days of
Homeschooling
On the first day of homeschool my neighbor said to me,
"Can you homeschool legally?"
On the second day of homeschool my neighbor said to
me,
"Are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"
On the third day of homeschool my neighbor said to me,
"Do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you
homeschool legally?"
On the fourth day of home school my neighbor said to
me,
"What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they
socialized, can you
homeschool legally?"
On the fifth day of home school my neighbor said to
me, "YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give
them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool
legally?"
On the Sixth day of home school my neighbor said to
me, "How long will you homeschool, YOU 'RE SO STRANGE,
what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they
socialized, can you homeschool legally?"
On the seventh day of home school my neighbor said to
me, "Look at what they're missing, how long will you
homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do
you give them tests, are they socialized, do you
homeschool legally?"
On the eighth day of home school my neighbor said to
me, "Why do you do this, look at what they're missing,
how long will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, hat
about P.E. do you give them tests, are they
socialized, do you homeschool legally?"
On the ninth day of home school my neighbor said to
me,
"They'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at
what they're missing, how long will you home school,
YOU 'RE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do you give them
tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool
legally?"
On the tenth day of home school my neighbor said to
me, "What about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why
do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long
will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!,
what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they
socialized, can you homeschool legally?"
On the eleventh day of home school my neighbor said to
me, "I could never do that, what about graduation,
they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at
what they're missing, how long will you homeschool,
YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E. do you give them
tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool
legally?"
On the twelfth day of homeschool my neighbor said to
me, "Can they go to college, I could never do that,
what about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do
you do this, look at what they're missing, how long
will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, What about
P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can
you homeschool legally?"
On the thirteenth day of homeschool I thoughtfully
replied:
"They can go to college, yes you can do this, and they
can graduate, we don't need the prom, we do it cuz we
like it, they aren't missing anything, we'll
homeschool forever, WE'RE NOT STRANGE!, We give them
P.E., life it self's a test, they are socialized, AND
WE HOMESCHOOL
LEGALLY!
On the fourteenth day of homeschool my neighbor said
to me, "How can I get started, why didn't you tell me,
where do I buy curriculum, when is the next
conference, WILL PEOPLE THINK WE'RE STRANGE?
I think
we
can do this, if you will help us, can we join P.E. and
we'll homeschool legally.

Nov. 20, 2006 Class Rings and other things
It's here! C's senior class ring is here! I went out to the mailbox and there was this small white mailing envelope with a postage of .67. addressed to C. I thought maybe this was C's class ring....but no, surely not in this unadorned, dinky mailing package! I brought it in and asked her to quick open that package. She did. We all stood around and ooohd and ahhd as she put it on and modeled it for us. The ring is truly beautiful. It is amethyst with white gold. Her name and graduation date are engraved on the sides of the ring with her initials inside. I am not sure what I imagined for this moment but I have to admit that I felt kind of let down. After saving for the ring, searching for just the right one, waiting and waiting for it to come, well I guess I felt like there should be more "ceremony" or something to the moment when she would receive the ring. Of course, to me the ring is such a strong symbol of these past years. -- Of struggles, hard work, and joy.....laughter, singing, dancing, playing, setting and achieving goals. I noticed how dark the purple stone is. C said," yes, it is deep, like me." How true--- Oh, how true my dear one. So much love and prayer have gone into your life. Not nearly enough of course and yet just enough.
A ring, a circle, a life.
Thanks be to God who brings us every good a perfect gift!

Today I sit wondering about the way of life. The way we learn.....the things that happen to us.....how we react. Sometimes, it seems to me that life is one step forward two steps back. I feel that I must finally be on the right track then WHAM! something totally unexpected comes along and makes me question. Recently, I have had a couple of experiences which have caused me to withdraw. I feel like our turtle "Uncle Sam" must feel. When we try to touch his soft "skin", he sometimes hisses at us as if saying "STOP, WARNING!" before pulling his head and legs, and arms inside that shell. Nothing we can do will cause him to come out again. Nothing. However, when he is all inside his tough, thick, protective shell, he can't be mobile. He can't move from one place to another. He can only sit very still in the same place. He can't drink or eat. He must keep eternal vigil. Though he is somewhat "protected" he is paralyzed in a sense. I very much want to move about the world. I want to experience life and give of myself to others. I want to "eat" to learn, to grow. Yet, here I sit in this "protected" but very lonely place. How to get out of this shell? God promises to be with us always. Jesus knows all about our sorrow. I can trust God enough to obey his command to be the salt of the earth. I need to remember to think of the lost world more than my own pain. Questions remain. God is there
