My fathers world K

Posted in My Fathers World

Christian KindergartenWe are having such a great time with MFW K this year.  For 10 days you do an introduction period learning about creation.  Each day you do a day of creation until you get the whole book done with 7 days. In that time you also go over letter recognition and the ABC song. After the 7th day you review for 3 more days adding in some new songs.  My kids have had such a great time with their creation books, even my 3rd grader wanted to do one so we let him partcipate (if a child volunteers to do a project, by no means should you stop him)

We did a little school today (saturday) because we missed a day plus the holiday, so we started Lesson 1 today which is about the Sun.  My 5 yr is loving it!  Its really exciting for me because I worried about his schooling, he was the only child I had that couldn't count or know any of his letters, he didn't talk much at all until he was 3 1/2.  He is a young 5 (just turned in August)  and its okay to me if he is not totally ready for K work, I have him in a pre k handwriting book and some other prek stuff as well, if we did regular school I would have never sent him this year.  This program seems perfect for him, he is learning about the world God created and we can't wait to make raisins, have an ant farm and see butterflies come out of their cocoon.  It adds some light math, such as calendar, counting to 100 and just basic adding and some phonics to teach them to begin to read.  Its very gentle and just perfect for him.  I'm amazed in just a few weeks all that he has learned, he is counting, he is recognizing many letters and is drawing like crazy.  Its so exciting for me to see, it truly makes my heart swell and its been such a bonding time between us, he is the middle child and that hasn't always been easy to fit in.

David Hazell (founder of MFW along with his wife Marie)  says that every K student deserves at least one hour of your time to do a good K program, its so easy to help the older ones and worry about all they are doing in school and not spend enough time with the younger ones.  Its not fair to them and I'm so glad we are doing this program with him this year, the things we are learning together will be worth so much and I wouldn't trade a minute of that time with him.
