Dirty Bow Wow Giveaway!

I recently received a copy of the new book Dirty Bow Wow:  A Tribute to Dogs and the Objects of their Affections.  It is ADORABLE.  There are so many beautiful photos of dogs and their playthings in this book.  The pictures are colorful and vibrant and each one tells a small story about the dogs favorite toy, stories of how some of the dogs have endured hard times in their past and just heartwarming stories that tug at your heart strings.  This book would be loved by all dog lovers and makes a wonderful story book for the kids.  Each one of my children ages 10, 6, and 5 have loved this book.  They will look at it over and over trying to pick the cutest dog-they change their minds everytime they look at it.  They are all so cute!

My dog has his own toy box and it is so funny that no matter how far back behind the furniture it is, he always makes his 90lb body over to it to get out his favorite.  I think my dogs favorite is his ropes.  One Christmas we even bought him a Christmas Color One, Red and Green.  He LOVED it.  I love that commercial where the owner and the dog are at PetSmart and are buying a new toy named Bobo and he is carrying it in his mouth.  That is so great!  Our pets truly love their toys as much as our kids do.

For the month of May there is going to be a great cause going on.  Dogs show us so much unconditional love!  The Bow Wow toy drive is a wonderful way to give back to the dogs!  Shelter dogs spend days locked in a confined space, and toys can help brighten a lonely dog’s day and teach them socialization skills that make them more adoptable.

Your help is needed! The Dirty Bow Wow Dog Toy Drive starts May 2009 at bookstores across the country. It’s your chance to help shelter dogs find the toy of their dreams, and hopefully a permanent, loving home. Below is a list of retailers who are collecting dog toy donations or hosting events. Drop off a new dog toy at the location nearest you, and aid a dog in need today!  Click HERE for more details.

Click here for a list of participating bookstores.-What a wonderful cause to donate a toy to a dog in the shelter to play with.  If you have been looking for a great family thing to do together to teach your children love and kindess to others this would be great fun to do together and your children would LOVE it!

Now for the giveaway!  Dirty Bow Wow is giving one of their books away to one of my lucky readers.  Just leave a comment telling me your favorite dogs toy.  Past or Present Dog.  If you don't have this experience to tell me just leave a comment telling me what you love about dogs the most!

Open to US Residents!  Contest ends Monday May 11th at midnight!

If you post an entry on your blog or tweet about it I will give you another entry.

Or if you follow me on twitter here.

Or if you add the toy drive button to your sidebar.  You can find this HERE

Thanks to FRN and Dirty Bow Wow for this opportunity!

My dog's favorite toy is a new Oinkie chew. We've tried other toys with her and she doesn't like them. A Kong filled with a treat only interests her until the treat is out (which is usually fast). She doesn't have much patience for working out stuck treat bits, either. But an Oinkie chew will occupy her for quite some time. She's a heavy chewer and can demolish some chewing treats way too fast.

Oh ... the guineas would be her favorite toy, but they aren't meant to be toys, so we STRONGLY try to discourage that!

My dog likes anything with eyes, but our Kong crew bone has lasted the longest!

Our collie chose my daughter's Velveteen Rabbit stuffed toy that came with the book. She has had it since 2003 and now it has only 1 ear and no eyes. Our 5yr old lab has realized how good pillows are to suck on. She looks like she's got a big pacifier in her mouth. We have gotten her one of her own so she doesn't use ours (yuk). It's really cute watching her. And she even whines sometimes and falls asleep with it in her mouth. Silly.

Herbie's fav. toy is his blue nylon chew bone. Ricky's is a little artist dog dressed in green and he has a little blue hat. The first one he had was torn up, but he's taking very good care of the second one.

Good review. I will promote this on my blog this weekend and Monday.

That sounds like a wonderful thing they are doing..
We have 3 Heelers, 2 deaf Reds and of course me, Gus the Hearing Eye dog.. Louie is a tennis ball magnet. He always manages to find them when we go to the lake. Yesterday we brought home 3. Callie is the stick girl. Doesn't matter how big or small she always finds one..

May. 8, 2009 - Louie's favorite toy

My Italian Greyhound Louie's favorite chew toy used to be his stuffed veterinarian. (Funny since his mom is a vet, LOL.) He has tended to replace that recently, however, when his best friend Carman died of cancer and we bought him a blue stuffed weiner-dog toy that has a cancer ribbon embroidered on it. Awwww.
