As I said in my last blog, Sunday 7:00 am is the implosion of the cooling tower at the now-defunct Trojan Nuclear Power Plant in Oregon, 60 miles east of us. We are hoping to be able to see it and maybe get some good pictures of it; if we do we'll try to put them on here. The major highways on either side of it will be closed during the implosion so it will be a challenge to get near enough to see it. The newspaper said to watch it on TV but since we do not have TV, that's not an option. My biggest challenge will be getting us all up at 5:00 am, since we are not early risers. I've considered just letting the guys go and staying home with Carmen but I doubt that Todd will go for that! This is history in the making, we need to be present (something for our kids to tell their kids!) Today, however is the 2nd horse race of the Triple Crown. We love to follow the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes races that make up the Triple Crown. We don't bet, of course, but we learn so much and really enjoy getting into it. Chad knows all the horse, jockey and owner statistics and we have lively discussions about who we want to win and the history of the horses. Since we do not have TV, my wonderful mom in Southern California will tape the race for us. We get the results right away off the Internet, paper and radio. The Kentucky Derby was 2 weeks ago so we'll see if the horse that won that race will win this one. In fact, we need to run out now and get a paper to see the contenders for today's Preakness. The jockeys wear such colorful uniforms, it's fun to see the line up in the sports section. Son, Alec, has said he wants to be a jockey but, at 8 y.o., he's already almost too tall to be one. I had to break the news to him that he'll probably grow to be 6 feet tall so he'd be better off to be an owner or trainer! |
