Three's a Crowd

Change of Plans

Due to all the road closures and warnings from the media, we have decided to stay home and see the Trojan cooling tower implosion online at katu.com.  Coverage starts at 6:00 am with the blast being at 7:00 am.  Won't be the same as actually being there but at least we won't have to get up so early!  It looks like you need to live in view of the tower, or know someone who doe, to be able to see it.  I really don't want to get a ticket for parking on the side of the road to view it like they are warning in the newspaper.  We are disappointed but it's not the end of the world, of course.  We'll just have to keep a lookout for another building to be demolished, some where, some time.  We will miss seeing the great monolith looming on the horizon as we pass it on the way to Portland.  It was like a landmark, we knew we were getting closer to the big city when we saw it rise up out of the landscape.  It was eerie, ominous, brooding.  Oooooh!  It will seem weird the next time we drive to Portland, we'll all subconsciously look for the tall, black tower.

Sorry you're going to miss out on being right there to see it. My husband had a funny incident happen to him once. He volunteered to tear down an older house across the street from us to save the owner some money and just for the sake of tearing down something (a man thing - ha!). Anyway, he worked for a long time and it finally came time for the house to fall. But, right then, someone drove by and yelled at him and he looked away. He missed it! :-)

Hi Kate,
What a shame you won't be able to see it happen live. Boys love anything with explosives and pyrotechnics and men are just big boys at heart. It is amazing when something that big gets blasted away in moments.
Thanks for your comments on my blog. Yes, our little problem does sound like a minor allergy. Our older son has a BIG allergy to peanut, the sort that woud have him on the instant critical list, so I wondered whether this is a minor case of the same thing. Our little one just turned 2 in March so I'm hoping he will grow out of this egg thing. Being a parent is full of surprises, isn't it?
About the picture on my blog - it was taken early last year so it's pretty current, although my hair is now a bit longer.
Hope you have a great week,
Paula

An hour is really far to drive for a 9 second show. Some of our neighbor's kids missed it. We were talking and it happened so fast... It was easy to miss. We actually turned on the TV as soon as we got home and saw the good view of it.
