About 14 years ago, before we had children, my husband and I needed another vehicle. We just had one, a Dodge caravan, but our work schedules were totally different and about 20 miles apart. One day, while driving home, my husband said he wanted a fairly new (he specified the year but I can't recall at the moment) Dodge Dakota truck 4x4. I laughed and said, "What color?" "Blue", he said. I laughed because it wasn't likely we would find exactly what he wanted in our price range. Then, a few days later, we were driving down Hwy 101 on our way home when we saw a blue truck parked at a used car dealer not far from our home. We stopped to take a look. Sure enough, everything my husband wanted was there and in our price range! I just couldn't believe it. We decided that if I wasn't pregnant (we were hoping to start a family at that time but it was slow-going!) we would go back and buy the truck. The test was negative. We bought the truck! My husband had been praying specifically. I displayed a stunning lack of faith! Lesson learned.
Let's return to the present. Since my husband began his journey into a new career of being a nurse, my prayer for him was that he'd be happy being a nurse and that he'd get a teaching job. He'd really like to teach. And when he took his anatomy & physiology class at the local college a few years ago, many comments were made by others that he could teach that class. He got to know his instructor well and earned much respect. Just a few months ago, we were talking about this particular instructor (who is now in charge of the nursing dept. there) and I said he should let her know he's interested in teaching. Well, guess what? We got a call two days ago from the college, offering my husband a job teaching the anatomy & physiology lab one day a week! He accepted, of course! Last week, he was offered a full-time nights position at the hospital where he's been working part-time, so his schedule just got busier but it's all good. Good for him and good on the resume. We are still a bit in shock. But very thankful! God hears our prayers. So why not pray specifically? His answers to our prayers are what He knows is best for us but I know He wants to hear our desires, not just sketchy outlines. God wants a personal relationship with us. Since my husband works mostly nights, I spend a lot more time talking with my Lord. He gets it all, nothing is held back! He is my closest friend and I'm so glad He's there for me, 24 hrs a day. So I encourage you, tell God your needs, specifically, and don't forget to thank Him for his answers! (Look up Phil. 4:6 - my favorite verse.) |

About your last post, that letter you received is another example of bureaucracy going haywire. Andrew said that when he used to work in accounting, that sort of thing happened with alarming regularity. But how terrible that it caused you to panic so close to Christmas. I would have reacted just the same way. And think of all the follow-up letters they probably had to send out just making more work for themselves.
Anyway, I'm glad you had it all sorted out before Christmas and that you're recovering from all the festivities,
Paula
P.S. I hope you've found a great place for all your Norman Rockwell collector plates.
