This Week In Our House

Here's an update on Todd:  We think he now has pleurisy which is an inflammation of the parietal pleura of the lungs (med. dictionary definition - got that?)  This can occur following an illness like pneumonia, which he has recovered from.  He was able to work two nights this past weekend but wisely stayed home when his pain worsened.  The doc doesn't want to see him until his echocardiogram results return and since he just had this test today, it could be next week.  Until then, he is hoping he doesn't get hiccups because that REALLY causes him pain.  Sneezing is difficult, too.  As long as he doesn't take a really deep breath, he's o.k. (he says).  (No problem - just don't breathe, Todd.)  Thanks again for your prayers for him.  I am having difficulty being upbeat and, therefore, our home has not been full of shiny, happy people this week.  I keep forgetting what day of the week it is.  There have been some extended family issues this week as well and being so far away from my mom makes it had for me to help comfort her.

On a happier note, my 6 yo Carmen lost one of her big front teeth today!  Pulled it out herself, brave little thing.  We took a photo of her tooth-less grin and I realized that she'll never look the same again.  Sigh.  I hope we don't forget to play tooth fairy tonight - she'll remind us if we don't visit.  She knows it's Daddy and a few months ago, she asked if Daddy wore wings when he played tooth fairy.  Can you picture that?

Son, Alec, has been trying to convince me that we could build our own space plane, all we need is enough money to do it.  He's volunteered to fly it for us.  Chad has immersed himself in his current interest, airplanes of all kinds, and every conversation begins with "Mom, did you know that (insert name of a specific airplane here) was (insert assorted information and facts that I didn't know here) on (insert a date here) ....."   Another favorite is, "Mom, do you know the armament of the (insert war plane here)?"  It's beginning to wear on me!  Carmen, bless her, has fallen in love with Miquon Math and is enjoying her Orange book thoroughly.  I don't dare stop for the summer!  We also are reading "By The Shores of Silver Lake" (Laura Ingalls Wilder) after dinner, which I thoroughly look forward to.  The whole house seems to quiet down and listen as I'm reading.

And, finally, I've begun reading "Three Cups Of Tea" by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.  Greg is a trauma nurse but really prefers mountain climbing and to make a long story short, this book is about his life as he works to get a school built high up in a village in the mountains of Pakistan.  It's truly amazing.  A local library is having a book discussion on this book later this month and I just happened to have purchased it for Todd last Christmas.  This gave me incentive to read it and I'm so glad I am.  There are difficult paragraphs but for the most part, his story is incredible.  It's good to get lost in the pages for awhile.  I love books like that.  I haven't even peeked at the ending (a really bad habit I have.)  I also want a new hairstyle but then, don't we all?

I'm sorry your husband is still battling sickness, I have had pleurisy before and it is very painful.
My 6yr old daughter lost a tooth tonight also and the tooth fairy is fairly broke here :)

My young nephew had pleuracy this last fall. It took a while to get back on his feet, but rest IS required.

When I "forget to call the tooth fairy," I get a good ribbing. Of course, we have the "Louisianna tooth fairy" that only brings a quarter per tooth. When we were outside talking to families in our neighborhood about how much the kids got for their teeth, one of my neighbors who is from Louisianna said she only got a quarter when she was growing up. "That explains it!" I told my kids, "We also have the Louisianna tooth fairy."

My 8 and 9 year olds are also convinced we can build and drive/fly a car and a plane. Most of their books from the library are on these topics...at least they are learning, right? :)

Jun. 7, 2007 - I'm sorry Todd is still hurting

Posted by jugglingpaynes
I hope he recovers soon. I wonder if it would help to put a warm towel or hot water bottle on his chest? Warmth tends to soothe.
I'm glad your taking some time for yourself. I did the unthinkable! I bought a book for myself! I never do that! It is the sequel to Bob Tarte's "Enslaved by Ducks," which I read and enjoyed. It's called "Fowl Weather." Along the top it says, "How thirty-nine animals and one sock monkey took over my life." Pet lover books! How can I resist?
Take care of yourself and prayers for Todd's full recovery.

Peace and Laughter (does it hurt to laugh?)

We will be continuing to pray for Todd and wisdom for the doctors involved. I will also be praying for peace for you.

Hey, when your boys build that plane you can fly on over and visit us in a flash! That will be great! :o) For my boys, it's a helicopter. "Just think how fast we could get places if we had a helicopter, Mom." :o)

William is about to lose a tooth and I was reminded of how many time the Tooth Fairy has fallen asleep before the quarter went under the pillow. Ooops! And no, I really can't imagine Todd with wings. LOL

Enjoy your book and go get yourself a new haircut. I got mine cut on Thursday and am debating on whether or not to get it colored, too. I hate spending that much money and I am kind of afraid to do it myself.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Hey Kate,
Me again! Just trying to catch up with friends tonight.
Ouch! Your poor DH! Keeping him in my prayers...
Yay for Carmen! That is way too cute that she asked if daddy wore wings when he plays tooth fairy!!! Now THAT would be a photo op NOT to pass up on! LOL!
I think Alec is going to invent something someday. :) Awesome how Chad's just soaking up information like that!
(I peek at endings sometimes too! BAD!)
Love, Alyssa

Poor Todd! I've heard that pleurisy is really painful. Remember we're all keeping up the prayer support. At least he remembered his tooth fairy duty.
Do you know, Chad sounds very much like Logan. Logan also loves to research a particular topic until he's a walking, talking encyclopaedia and book of statistics. I'm glad there is so much knowledge at their fingertips in our age of computers.
I remembered what you said about Carmen's interest in the ancient Egyptians. We recently saw a fascinating documentary about King Tut. They restored the mummy to what they're certain he would've looked like, and apart from a middle-eastern look about the eyes, he would've looked very much like a 16-year-old nephew of mine. Apparently his death was due to speeding in his chariot. I'd never realised teenage road deaths started thousands of years ago. They say he probably had a bit of pain from an impacted wisdom tooth but other than that, he'd been in very good health. It was a bit of an eerie show to watch but very interesting.
Feeling like a haircut must be a mid-year sort of thing, whether we're in summer or winter. Mine had been longer than it'd been for years so I've just had a cut.
Hope to hear you have good news this week,
Paula

Jun. 12, 2007 - I've been meaning to check up on you

How's Todd doing? I've been worried as you haven't been posting. I pray all is getting better.

Now on your last comment to me, you mentioned switching houses for a summer. Lol, that had me thinking as my spouse has recently talked about how people are doing this sort of thing. He was thinking about using my MIL's house in Clayton, Ga, for this sort of thing. As for my Florida home, I'd rather you visit when I'm home, lol, after all, the amount of pets to be fed and tending GM, is more then I could ever ask ANYONE, lol, half the time, I wish I didn't have to do it. : )

I'll continue to pray for the Lord's healing touch.
Blessings,
Vicki
