Brace Yourself Part 2

Last year, I wrote a post about my oldest son getting braces (see "Brace Yourself" in July archives).

Well, the long and short of it this ... I'm getting braces.  I had impressions made today.  The procedure begins the day after my birthday and before Mother's Day weekend.

What AM I thinking?!!

44.  Wrinkles.  Gray hair (well covered up, however.)  Persistant adult acne (dang it!)  And now braces.

Call this aging adolescence.  (If you have to call it anything.)

Of course, dh is all for it.  I told the dentist my dh is tired of looking at my buck teeth.  I actually had fun today.  Well, sort of.  I said I wasn't an easy patient.  I hammed it up for the photos they had to take.  I don't have to behave, I'm an adult getting braces!  Oh, I'll be good.  I just want to get this over with - as soon as possible.

Sigh.  Big, big sigh.

At least they only have to band the upper jaw.  Only.  Sigh.

You crack me up!!! Now you know you are going to have to post pictures of this, don't you??? LOL! :o)

PS - I bought my bonsai last night, but the store where I got it just said 'mixed bonsai' so I just chose a tree that looked strong and healthy. I have no idea what kind it is. And no, I hadn't read your post yet - freaky!!

A friend of mine got braces last year. She always got purple of pink elastics. She figured if she was going through the whole ordeal she'd have fun with it!!

You're too funny. But, if it's something you've always wanted to do, than feel good about doing it. And now you can commiserate w/ your kiddos!

I had braces twice. Then I threw away my retainer when I met dh. Now the dentist says I could use another go around. Please be sure to keep that retainer! They do what they are called, retain! You'll have to post a picture of your new smile soon!

Good for you! And just think-- since you homeschool, you won't have to worry so much about other kids making fun of you. :-)

Well, at least you will get to feel young again, or something. I, on the other hand, am pretty sure that I will be getting bi-focals soon. Not exactly something to make me feel young.

There's nothing like going through braces as to have them yourself. :-) I bet you'll be adorable...and what's interesting- it's not at all uncommon for grown ups to be getting braces.

I noticed that one of our local news reporters had "Something" done - because she was talking differently than before. I figured she had the vanity version of orthodontia.

I loved the Mayflower comment! It made me laugh. What was even more fun - I saw one of the trucks today on the way home from an errand. We used to see them all the time - but not so much anymore.

Made my day.

My m-i-l got them much later in life than you are doing and was glad she did it.
I am just (finally) catching up on blogs after our overseas move and saw this, had to comment! You can get all those cool different colored band-y things. Just think straight teeth AND embarrass your children! how could that be bad?

Well, good on you! You were probably wise to leave it until after Easter too. I met a much, much older lady than you at a conference who was due to get hers removed the week before her son's wedding!
Take care,
Paula

lol...just think how pretty the braces will be as you match the colored bands to your outfit!

My spouse has had braces for years now to correct buck teeth. Years~ due to his always working and missing appointments. Don't do that. Go to all appointments. =D

Have a warm & bright Spring!

I know of a few women who have recently got braces. It is not a weird thing to do. Sometimes it just works out that it is a good time then and when you were younger it wasn't.
I guess you will be eating a lot of soup.
Braces are great for weight loss. Though, I think it must be one of the most expensive weight loss programs around.
Blessings to you and yours.
