Do You Read "Parade?"

In the Sunday paper today, I read an article in "Parade" magazine that talked about the homeschooling issue going on in California right now. And the magazine wanted people to go to their website and vote on the following: Should parents need teaching credentials to homeschool their kids?

I went to parade.com and voted where indicated. I voted "no" because I know very well that parents do NOT need teaching credentials to teach their kids. I want to encourage those of you who homeschool or support homeschooling to go to parade.com and vote your opinion. As of 10:45 pm, over 15,000 votes have been tallied and it's 90% - no and 10% - yes. I was thrilled! On their website, under the heading "What's New", click on the article entitled "Taught At Home".

I really can't stand to see anything that puts homeschooling in a negative light when I know so many, many families that homeschool successfully, including my own (in my opinion). Enough said.

G'Morning, Kate~

We don't get Parade in our Sunday paper... it's a different publication similar to it whose name escapes me right now. Just one more reason to move to the PNW... then I can get 'normal' things again, lol!

Anyway, I went to parade.com and voted, and was pleased to see that the percentages have increased in our favor: it's now 93% - No and 7% - Yes. I would love to have all HE laws done away with, but you and I are of a like-mind on this, and so I won't 'preach to the choir,' as it were.

Have a lovely day, and wonderful week, and I'll stop by again soon~

love,
Shani

Thanks for the link. I just went and voted as well. When I did it it was 95% no. Hurray! IMHO, these are my children and I didn't need a credential to be their mother, their first teacher. So why should I need a credential to keep being their mother?

By the way, I need to catch up with you blog. It's been long time since I've been able to access homeschool blogger, but it's been on my end.

I voted, too! Absolutely, you do NOT need teaching credentials to teach your children. I'm living proof of that! Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Thank you for posting this link! I'm right with you in knowing that parents can and DO do a wonderful job of educating their children.

Florida schools have been struggling for years now and as of June 9th, 2008, they just laid off many, many teachers to save money. What was over-crowded last year, will become insanely over-crowded next year. I'm so thankful that I homeschool and my children won't be subjected to that insanity.
