• Feb. 5, 2007 - American Car Day

Dad was at one of his breakfast meetings at work and this guy called Laurie said “Would your boys like a ride in a Mustang convertible?”   Dad said “yes”.   Yesterday Laurie pulled up our drive in his Mustang and drove us to the train station where there were more Mustangs.   We got to choose which one we wanted a ride in to Upper Hutt to where the American Car Day was being held.

First we went in a Mustang convertible that had its roof down but unfortunately Sean and I were sitting in the back and the wind was freezing!   It was really fun being able to ride in a beautiful old gold American Mustang (owned by Dale).   It was a lovely day, just the air was a bit chilly because we were behind the hills part of the way and it was early in the morning.   We stopped at Plimmerton and Mum stopped behind us as she was following in Dad’s V8 and Sean got some warmer clothes and I swopped with Dad into the front seat.   All the Mustangs we were with stopped at the Hayward’s and we stopped there too to have a look at some of the other cars.   Dad and Sean changed into a green cool looking Shelby Mustang (owned by Mike) for the rest of the trip.   I stayed in the same Mustang, in the front.

When we arrived at the American Car Day at Trentham race course there were TONS of cool old American cars.   There was this one with awesome reflecting blue flames in the sun on the paintwork.   There were these three dragsters on display and they were really cool and had big engines.   When they turned their engines on your our eardrums felt like they were going to explode the sound was so loud!   Mum let us have some American doughnuts from a little stand – tasty!   There was lawnmower racing which we didn’t get to see, but we saw a guy testing one out.   Mum said “Americans race anything that has wheels” when she saw the lawnmower racing sign and Dad just told me about the bathtub racing in Nanaimo Canada, that he saw when he was in the Navy a long time ago.   I saw this awesome red Mustang; it was long almost like a Cadillac and we saw a car with all these freaky paintings on it but they were really high detail and they were cool.

When Sean and I were on the bouncy castle, for some reason it started to collapse.   Sean freaked out and tripped over.   I managed to get out before it fully went down.   All of a sudden it went up again as some people around the back had fixed the problem.   Then me and Sean got off and went on the Ferris wheel, which was fun.   There were helicopter rides, but we didn’t have one.

After a while we all started to get a bit tired, so we looked around for Laurie and when we found him we said “thanks” and then we went to our car and we got buckled up and everything and went home.   It was really great fun at the American Car Day.

PS - The Chevy Bel Air in the photo above was Mum's favourite car!

I love the blue car too so does Mum! You were so lucky to have a ride in the police car and seeing all that stuff at the police station. Cool news that you are going to be in a magazine can't wait to see it!

Cameron,

I saw a message on our homeschooling boards about your brother and you and your family. I didn't want to look because I didn't want to have to think about a little boy with cancer. When I did and I clicked on the link for your dad's blog and saw that picture of Sean I was overwhelmed by conviction from God. Sean looked a lot like my little boy.

I know I'd want EVERY person to pray for me, my family and my son if we were in your shoes. So forgive my selfishness.

I've read through your blog to the December posts. You have some really neat things to say. I like the pictures esp but more I like how descriptive you can be in your writing. I used to be an English teacher here in the states. I've read LOTS of writing, lots bad, some good and a little great. You've got lots of potential. You must be a good student.

Cameron, I want you to know that I'm praying for you that God will make you be the person He wants you to be. I will pray for strength and patience when it comes to Sean and the cancer. And also for fear that God will give you peace and confidence.

You seem like a really great brother and though I don't know you, I am so proud of you.

What is your favorite old car? It doesn't have to be American! I'm a big fan of antique/classic cars. I like most of the ones before the 50's the best. My husband's all time favorite is the 68 or 69 Chevrolet Chevell SuperSport. I personally think they're ugly. But he thinks they're fast. You can see where our priorities lie when it comes to cars! I really like the ones from the 30's the best - old Rolls Royce Silver Clouds.... Gorgeous (wonder if they go fast!)

Blessings to you and hello from my almost 5 year old boy and my 6 year old girl!
