Edward I —The Little War of Chalons
There was these two armies. They were going to have a tournament. The Count and King Edward were trying to knock each other off their horse. The count kept striking at King Edward and King Edward didn't fall off his horse. The count fell off his horse. King Edward got up and jumped over at him and kept jumping on him and finally let him get up. Then the Count tried to give King Edward his sword but King Edward wouldn't take it.
Some men saw that there was more French and King Edward was beat out of men so they started to shoot their arrows at the horses and killed them. King Edward's army won.

Henry III - The Story of the Poisoned Dagger
A man came to a Prince Edward and bowed and gave a letter to the prince. He started to move slowly to his sword and then pulled it out very fast and threw it at the prince's heart. But the prince was fast too and he caught it, but he still got bruised.
His wife figured out that the sword was poisoned and she learned how to take the poison out. She went to him and sucked it out. She stayed with him all the time until someone made her leave.
The doctor came in and said that he could heal the prince. The doctor healed him. He was back to regular.
The prince was on a crusade but heard his dad was sick so he went home to become king.

"Cobwebs" from Parables from Nature
There were two spiders. They have eight eyes. The little spider was going to make her web and was hanging down. Right when the little spider was about to wind it up, the sunlight came and shone on her and she hopped. Argh! Then the spider went back to her mom's place to ask her what was blaze and dazzle.
The little spider went down all the way to the floor and it feels like cold cement. She tried to feel the web. She gets it and climbs up on it. She fell right asleep.
She caught flies in her web and kept having to make it stronger. A broom killed her.

"Twelfth Night" from Shakespeare for Children by Charles and Mary Lamb
Sometimes I help with the narrations if he is struggling or if he gets some information incorrect. This was a VERY laid back narration as it was done three days after we listened to the story. All of his information is not correct but I was pleased with some of the details that he did remember and pick up. If you don't know the jist of "Twelfth Night", you won't get it from this narration.
There is this boy and girl. When her brother was dead she said, "Now leave me alone for, like, for many days." A boy loved the girl so much.
There was another boy and girl and they looked alike. They were in wreck. Somebody comes in and takes her away to this place. First, he said your brother might still be hanging on a rock. And he was. She disguised herself when they got there.
When this boy was going to wrestle with her and her brother comes up and was going to protect her. When this girl meets with a boy and calls him to tea and then he said yes to get married. Then the sister comes and still disguised as her brother. She calls her in and it was the wrong one. Before they got married, she breaks up a fight.

"The Cat That Walked by Himself" fom Just So Stories
A man and a woman lived in a cave. The woman always told the man, "Wipe your feet before you come in." There was a fire down in the cave.
And then the dog went to see the fire and the dog asked the cat to come and the cat said, "No I'm the wild cat that walks by itself." The dog went and the cat followed. [secretly] He asked what was the light. in the cave. Then the dog becomes the guys helper to hunt. [she offered him all the tasty bones he could eat if he helped the man and gaurded the cave at night]
Then the horse goes. And asked why the wild dog didn't come back. She says, "Its not a wild dog anymore." The dog was out hunting with the man. When he comes back, she says when you go out hunting ride the horse. [she offered the horse sweet cut grass if it would let the man ride him]
Then the cow goes. and asked why the horse and dog are waiting. Then the cow was helping to give them warm milk. [also for grass]
The cat goes. If she she says one praise to the cat, he's allowed to come in the cave. If she says two praises for the cat, allowed to go down to the fire. If she says three, the cat is allowed to drink milk three times a day.
The cat told her there was a mouse on the floor. She jumps on the chair and the cat asks if she wants him to eat it. The woman said yes if you do I'll give you a hundred thanks. Then the cat hops right on it and eats it. [she praises him when he makes the baby laugh, and she praises him when he puts the baby to sleep with his purr]
The man and the dog and the horse came back. And he asked why is the wild cat in here. The dog said, "If you go out I'll bite you." The dog showed his teeth. The man says he has two boots and says, "If I ever see you again I will throw them at you." The man was sitting by the fire with warm milk.
The cat got chased and went up the tree. At night the cat went out. |

Chapter 39 from Burgess's Bird Book: White-breasted Nuthatch and Brown Creeper
White-breasted Nuthatch
Song: "What, what, what, what." He likes beechnuts and grubs. He looks like a blue jay but smaller and without the mohawk. He's the only bird that can climb head-first down a tree. He uses one foot frontwards and one backwards.
Brown Creeper
Song: "See-see-titi-see" He eats bugs in the tree. Why its called the brown creeper is because it is kind of brown and it king of creeps up the tree. The male has a little bit longer beak. The beak is a little bit curved. |

"Daily Bread" from Parables from Nature
There was this Robin and a turtle. The turtle was talking about "Waking me up from my nap." The tortoise tells him about the weather that is coming. It was the winter. All the berries were going to be gone and snow would be on the ground. Then the Robin flew away and found some other birds that he was going to share with.
He always went to the berry place where there were always berries and he always sings. But one day there was no berries. He found a man that had all the berries. Then the bird started to chase him but the door shut on him before he could in.
Two days later of hunger he went to the place again. He saw a window open and saw a bunch of crumbs spread out there, then the window shut. He flew over and ate the crumbs. It came spring and the tortiose waked up. The tor calls him and thought the Robin was going to be half starved but he wasn't half startved because of the people. |

They went to England. A brave went with them. He made a scratch in his stick for every person he saw. He saw too many.
Pocahontas saw the London Bridge. Instead of houses on land, there were houses on the bridge. She met the King of England. She never returned to America. |

When Pocahontas was visiting someone this one woman brought her to a ship and and traded her for a pot. Powhatan wouldn't give money to get her.
Then the white man asked if she wanted to go to England. They got married. And her dad wasn't happy about it. Then they left to go to England. |

Harald went up and when the other kings was putting his bandages on [tying the boats together] and they started to attack in the water. And there was one up at the top were shooting thier arrows down on the other boats and rocks on the other boat and some even jumped on the enemies boat.
The king was down in the bottom of his boat. His hat's armor was bent a little bit but he was still fighting. Harald won the battle.

"Gyda's Saucy Message" from Viking Tales
King Harald heard some men talking about this girl that can cure and disease. It is working with flowers. He wanted to marry her. He sends three men out to say his news to her. She didn't let them talk to her. Just told them a message to King Harald. They set off to tell the message to King Harald. Her message was she wouldn't marry him unless he takes over Norway's land.
He went out and put houses on fire and did a war. Men were talking about him about how it wasn't good until he came and now it is good now that he came.
Then a guy said it was better to die to in battle than be someone's slave and he hid from King Harald. |

The white people left and came back with some treasures for Powhatan from the King of England. And he told them to bring gifts to him. They did. He got a bed, also a pot and brought him a cloak and a crown. He was standing up and they told him to kneel down and they kept pushing him down until he was bent down a little so they could but the crown down on him
They were at a party. The four white men were just sitting there and they get startled and stand up. Then they sit down because it was just Pocahontas and her friends that had deer horns on their head and they were painted.
Then they were sleeping. Pocahontas came quietly through the yards at night and told them to leave. They did. They were enemies now and stole anything they could. |

The Indians caught one of the white down at the swamp. He was too far away from his own people. Then Poc put on her red paint and dress of turkey feathers for go sit beside her dad. And right when they were going to kill the white man, Pocahontas saved him. Then the guy who belonged to the village, if she saved him, she is the owner of him.
And he showed her some of the stuff he had: gun, helmet, some armor and even a compass. And then one day he went off and didn't come back and she heard they were sick. And then she kept asking Powhatan to let her go with some food and he finally let her go. And she got some ladies to help her carry all the food to them. They did it again. They got better. But Powhattan was kind of angry. |

One day some white men came and the Indians called them Paleface. They were not afraid of Powhatan. They cut down his own down his own trees and made a villiage.
The Indians thought they had magic sticks but they were guns. The Indians were scared the white people. Even Powhaten wouldn't chase them out of his land.
One white man got too far away from the others and the Indians caught him in a swamp. Pocahontas thought he was the nicest man she ever saw.

Her father was Powhatten, he ruled a lot of tribes. His daughter's name is Pocahontas. She mostly played. Every morning she took a morning bath. If it was winter, spring, fall or summer she took it at the river. She comes out and plays with the boys while the other girls had to go in and help the women. Her grandma knew a lot of things and a lot of stories. She had a lot of stories to tell. She thought there was someone smarter than her grandma and there was, the medicine man. He knew some secrets. |

They were having a battle. One of the guys fell down under the Harald's spear named Foe's Fear. They stole some weapons that the other army had. And the king said bring every weapon that you have taken and put it in a pile. Then he says who these piles are going to belong to. And they all went back with more than they had before.

Harald's dad died, so Harald was going to be king. He had a feast. All these men came from other places. Some walking, some rode horses, some in boats. They ate, drank and then Harald said he was going to be king. Then he sat on the king's throne. They feast for three days. When they were leaving he gave them gifts. He was only ten. |

Song: "queedle, queedle" It eats mice, insects, caterpillars and small birds. He puts food on a thorn to keep it for latter. Also makes it eaiser to tear. He sits high on a tree looking for his prey.

"Foes'-fear" from Viking Tales
Foes'-fear is the name of Harald's spear. He made it himself. He went out looking for heavy enough wood for his spear. He cut down this tree and went through it. A wolf jumped and bit his arm. He remebered his sharp spear head in his belt. He pulled it out and put it through the wolf's neck and thew it away. The wolf was dead.
He talked to the wolf. "You're the first one to feel the bite of my spear but you won't be the last."
He went back built his spear. Somebody walked in and said, "You got a wolf bite!" And he said it was a wofl scratch. He told him he was ready for war. |
