Jun. 22, 2006 - Finding God in the Small Stuff

If I think too hard about this idea, it gets mind boggling and my brain threatens to freeze up.  How can God care about all us billions of people, and not just that, but the little things that matter to us pathetic humans?  As someone constrained by time and physical laws, I can't comprehend it.  But I believe He does care, even about the minutest concern we have.  And being a loving Father, he provides for us in beautiful, sometimes humorous ways.

Just today He took care of two little things that were nonetheless important to us.  In our fixer-upper house, we had two broken windows.  Josiah was shopping around yesterday for someone to put glass in the frames, which he will then install.  After visiting 4 shops, he finally ended up at one in town who's owner seemed a friendly sort, and after a nice chat and a little bargaining on Josiah's part, the man said he'd put the glass in the frames for $50.  Which is about $100 less than the quotes he'd gotten from other shops.  Josiah went back today, and the owner wasn't there, and the lady who took the money said she'd have charged way more than the owner did, so he must have used his prerogative to give Josiah a huge discount.  We don't know why he did that, but $100 is a huge amount to us, so we're thrilled.

This next example is even more minute.  Josiah said I could do with the new house what I like, as far as decor goes.  Yesterday I spotted the cutest fabric at the thrift store, perfect for the kitchen--it is a garden vegetable print, which sounds hokey, but it's really adorable.  And the matching lining fabric was there too ("lettuce green").  Josiah ok'd the purchase, and when I went back today, it was still there, and the price was exactly what he'd told me my limit for spending on it was!  When I got home and unfolded it, there were about 5 yards each of the print and plain fabrics.  Enough to curtain the one kitchen window, and also make doorway curtains, which I want because we don't have screens on the entry door, and we don't have interior doors at all.  Besides that, also in the bag I purchased were 3 more pieces of fabric, including one huge piece of lightweight denim, all of which I already have plans for!

Isn't it comforting to know that God cares about window panes and veggie print fabric?  If he takes care of these little things, how much more does he care about our larger concerns?

I am constantly amazed when I lose something and I ask for help to find it and literally minutes later... there it is! THis happens all the time to me. God has such a wonderful sense of humor. He must just delight in our silly joy over the smallest of blessings (providing we ARE thankful; it's easy to take the small things for granted).
Just last week, I was researching a conservative group on line. They have a seminar but I didn't think it would be something my DH would want us to attend. However, I was fascinated, being the info junkie that I am. At our local MCC thrift store, I found a book from this organization for only a dollar! DH thought that was fine and I can return it to be resold as soon as I'm done with it!
Keep enjoying the little surprises of our Heavenly Father. He loves to spoil us!

Thank you for the reminder I needed in how God cares for the little stuff - and if He cares for the little stuff, He certainly does the BIG stuff!

You are my "Thursday's Child" on my blog today. Thank you for your encouragement!
