The Cappuccino Life

Nov. 3, 2006 - Hotel Rwanda

I am up early this morning since we have an early appointment and I didn't want to oversleep.  I thought I would exercise while I watched Hotel Rwanda, but I spent most of my time weeping.

Who dares to say that humans are inherently good?  Who can doubt that evil lurks inside each of us?  What else would cause a man to turn against his neighbor, to steal and burn and rape and slaughter, on the basis of some foolish distinction made by white colonists decades before?  The Hutu/Tutsi conflict was senseless violence incarnate.

Can we ever fully comprehend the depths of wickedness to which man will go?  Or the heights of courage of which he is capable?  Probably what is most disturbing about Hotel Rwanda is that the story behind the movie is real.  It is no made-up action film where the viewer knows the blood and gore is fake.  Paul Russesabagina was a real man, who sheltered around 1,200 real refugees at the hotel he managed.  But the people he saved were just a tiny minority.  Around 1 million real people were slaughtered during that conflict.  And this type of horror has been with us since Adam and Eve decided to disobey God, and will be with us until the Lord comes again in glory.

All I can say is "Lord Jesus, come again!  Soon!"

I haven't seen that movie yet, but was just looking at it yesterday, thinking hmmm... I still think I'd like to see that one.
And I totally agree about the whole depravity of man thing, we are definitely not getting any better as the years go by, "Even so, come Lord Jesus!"
Amen sister,
have a good one,
ali

I haven't seen Hotel Rwanda yet, but I recently read Left To Tell by Immaculée Ilibagiza. I knew NOTHING about what happened in Rwanda. I highly recommend the book!
