Nov. 6, 2006 - Don't Forget to Vote!

Disenfranchisement or disfranchisement is the revocation of, or failure to grant, the right of suffrage (the right to vote) to a person or group of people. Disenfranchisement may occur explicitly through law, or implicitly through means such as intimidation. (Wikipedia.org)

We hear all about disenfranchisement in regards to minorities.  I do wonder about some of the claims--how exactly is requiring ID for first time voters disenfranchising? I have no problem with showing my ID this time, since I'll be voting in a new county.

It seems to me that there's an attempt by the media to intimidate another segment of the population this time--conservative, "values voters".  Maybe we could call it "disenfranchisement by depression and discouragement" or something like that.  If you listen to the major news outlets, all us conservatives are in the dolldrums and hate our representatives because of scandal and corruption.  Ted Haggard didn't help things much.  Now they can add "See, your leaders are hypocrites" to their list of reasons why we shouldn't even bother to vote.  According to them, there's no hope of us influencing the election.

Well, I intend to put my little drop in the bucket tomorrow.  Y'all better too.  If you don't, don't complain about who's taking office this next term.
