Apr. 14, 2007 - Biruk's First Rebellion
I've heard third children are ornery, even in the womb, and I heard it again numerous times yesterday.
Because the midwives were unsure of Biruk's position, they asked me to have an ultrasound. As the tech scanned my belly, she said "Ooohhh, what's this?..." Wouldn't you know the little stinker was fully transverse? (That is, sideways, for anyone who hasn't read a birth book recently) Not good. And the doctor who does versions normally is on vacation in the Carribean. *panicpanicpanic*. The doctor who was in was willing to try to turn the baby, but when she came in to look at the scan herself, he had flipped head down. Goober!
But since they knew he had room to flip and might do it again, they asked me to go to the midwife center and see if they could get things going naturally, since I had been having some "prelabor" stuff going on. No such luck. He wasn't interested in coming out last night, so we finally just gave up and went home. My job now is to stay upright as much as possible to keep the little contrarian head-downward by the pull of gravity.
The midwives warned that if we left the center, I'd probably go into labor the minute we got home and have to return. Since even the pre-labor contractions stopped cold, my guess is that Biruk's idea is to make me wait another two weeks and add concern about a record-breaking baby size to this mess.

Hey Mags...if you need someone to watch the kids when the baby comes please give me a call day or night! I'm a college student, so I'll probably be up at 2 am anyway. I love you, and am praying for a safe (and speedy) delivery.
Apr. 16, 2007 - take castor oil
Posted by Anonymous
Hi I used castor oil to induce labor at home on my last four children. I had my first three in a terrible hospital setting with 20 hours of pitocin to get them out. So I was desperate with number four to get her to come out. I used two ounces of castor oil and had her six hours later. My midwife later in each of the last three told me to take it and would be close by. One labor number six was so fast she only got there five minutes before I pushed Ashton out in the shower. Castor oil....it's the way to go!
