The Cappuccino Life

May. 27, 2008 - I need a new T-shirt

I need one of those t-shirts that say something.

The "something" would be: "No, I'm not pregnant again yet, but thanks for asking!".

Over the last couple of years people (mostly at church) have peppered us with the "Sooooo, are you 'done' yet?  Or are you trying for a girl?".  We usually get at least one of these each time we go to church.  Since we know people can be sensitive about the birth control issue, we have tried to give generic, inoffensive, inscrutable answers like "Oh, we'll see what God does".  Some people will look at Josiah and say "You need to give your wife "her" girl!".   Lately Josiah's been putting on a sweetly befuddled face and saying "God is the one who decides gender.  Why are you asking me if we're going to have girl?".  That tends to make people blush and stammer.  We're in church, after all.  Of all people they should know we don't control the gender of our children.

However, as quiet as we've tried to be about it, folks now know that we either crazily want a big family, or crazily aren't doing anything to prevent a big family, so "Pregnant yet?" is the next most common question.  Some people ask me every week.  They seem baffled by the fact that I'm not.  I guess they think the Duggars are the norm for folks like us.

"None of your beeswax" is really the answer, but I just can't say that.  Occasionally I would like to blurt out "Helllloooooo!!! The whole idea is that we're not in control.  And it works both ways.  I can't make myself pregnant.  I'm not God!".

I'm thinking a t-shirt could just stave off the questions, and then I wouldn't have to come up with polite answers on the spot to prying questions about my fertility.  I could get a couple, and rotate them: "No, I'm not pregnant", "Yes, they're all mine", "No we're not 'trying for a girl'", and "Yes, we do know what causes that".

May. 27, 2008 - Practice practice practice

Too bad you can't make up some relatively clean comment about how much you like the 'practicing' while you wait for God to bring the next babe! heehee

OR... could you say something like "Hey, since you are so concerned, I'll drop the boys off with you so we can spend all day working on creatin' that girl..."

Sorry, I'm pretty punchy this morning LOL...
With three boys myself, I can't imagine having the energy to try to conceive a child at this point :-)

Do you have any suggestions for potty training my Nolan? (he's 2.5)

Check out CafePress - search for large family or quiverful, etc. There are a lot of really funny shirts there that I (probably) wouldn't be brave enough to wear IRL. I like "Birth Control is for Sissies!" teehee.

Good grief! What is the deal with that? Don't you only have three kids? Here's hoping they mean well!

You could buy some tees on clearance & use iron on paper to make your own.

I love it Maggie! People just feel the need to say whatever pops into their heads...
Have a great day!

People encourage me to try for a girl too, and I usually say "Boys are great!"
I really love having all boys, I would love to have a girl, but it is really easy this way right now!
One person who got the comment "Don't you know what causes that? said they replied "Oh yes, and we have so much fun doing that too!"
It is not something I would brave saying.....but for some people....
