Jul. 25, 2008 - What a mom of many wants you to know
Rocks in My Dryer hosted a guest blogger this week. Jenni is a mom of 12 and has a few things to say about mothering a large family.
Here's a taste of her post:
"In the end, what I’d like for you to know is probably not that much different than what anyone else would say: when in doubt, extend grace. Grace is the Melanie Wilkes to the world’s Scarlett O’Hara: it believes the best even when it doesn’t understand, and is humble enough not to insist on explanations. I don’t know of a single situation where it wouldn’t be welcome!"
In light of my run in with the super offensive woman at the grocery store last week, this post really resonated with me.

And if you're wondering what you can say to a larger family, without offending them, here's my advice: A simple "You have such beautiful children! What a blessing!" would make any mom's day, no matter how many or how few children she has.

If I see a large family, I usually try to say something along those lines. I'm glad you reminded me.
When people see us, they often say "Oh, you must have your hands full". I say "Yes, We have fun.. They are good boys" and people looks surprised. Do Moms normally say their boys are bad? I don't like to speak that over my little guys if I don't have to! Sometimes I add "It's never a dull moment at our house" ... which is true ! LOL

While out running errands with my toddler (at the time I only had one child), a lady told me that you don't qualify as a mom until you've had more than one child! I was horrified as my self confidence and esteem was really low after going thru post partum depression. However, thanks to other positive moms and of course our God, I was able to over come such a rude comment!
